Nice one...remember that? Who was the reviewer (another site) that got banned from here for constantly spewing that red vomit? I wonder what all of the jokers are saying now (FUDsters that kept posting about BD discs manufacturing errors, insufficient production capability, ect.)?

Kudos to Cliff for the eloquent and patient posts he has generated in that AVS thread, one that I frankly wouldn't have frequented if it were not for Penton's link.
Cliff is calling them out again on a different title and now losing his patience………..

“HOLY SH!T!

Are you guys for fu(king real?!!??!? You have somebody who spoke directly to the DP about this release… someone who confirmed that the DP DID IN FACT SUPERVISE THE NEW TRANSFER. Oh yeah, and someone who just happened to be around when the godd@mn film was being made… You know, an actual filmmaker himself???

But no, I’d rather some yahoo from Salt Lake City or South America, who’s never even HELD an HDCAM tape, much less been involved with what goes into getting the film there… that’s the guy I really want to hear thoughts on the transfer and encoding process from.

I’m going to let some of you in on a little secret… You guys, who think you’re really expert and smart about all this HD stuff… You’re not. A lot of you are making guesses and assumptions based on other people’s guesses and assumptions and somewhere along the way you’ve convinced each other that it’s ALL fact because no one can remember where the bullsh!t started. Information and knowledge has become diseased and ranks less important around here than personal opinion and posting hierarchy.

Sorry, but it sickens me to see this distortion of information continue on (something AVS is sadly all too willing to allow, apparently). I’m tired of seeing people (and this includes the guys policing these threads) just sit on their hands and pretend that AVS isn’t being run by a handful of lunatic posters who have made AVS a digital Lord of the Flies.

So ban me if want (I couldn't really care less at this point) and delete this post (I fully expect it to be gone before morning… it’s seems to be AVS policy to suppress/delete the truth and punish those who have repeatedly tried to make the forum a better place), but…

Enough is enough!!! This forum has turned into a godd@mn sewer with the absolute bottom feeders allowed to eat away at AVS’s integrity. Congrats AVS, you continue to supply evidence as to why you’ve become one of the biggest online jokes in the AV community. How bad do you have to have let things get when Blu-ray.com is now the level-headed, friendly place for discussion?
Prove me wrong… I DARE YOU!”

Hi Juanell ,
I don’t think I ever made mention of any prize esp. since we’re now running all those type of giveaways through dedicated threads on the topic, example being
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=119116

You do get a well deserved tip of the hat from me though.
I’ll tell you what. If there are any extra screeners lying around the office when I get back from Christmas Holiday and if you can answer the following question correctly (pick one choice only), I promise to have my A.A. send you out a free Blu-ray when I return to the office after New Year’s.

Let’s say a big gray whale (like 8 -10 tons) washes up ashore dead on a beach somewhere in the NorthWest (like Washington or Orgeon) about 40 years ago, how do you think the locals would have best tried to get rid of it?

A. Wish it away with chants, prayers, etc.
B. Blow it up into smithereens with multiple cases of dyno-mite
C. Burn it
D. Tow it back out to the ocean and have the sharks feast on it
E. Cut it up into more manageable pieces that can be hauled away to the local cat food processing plant for ‘disposal’ at their discretion

I don’t want to put any pressure on you but, the clock is ticking and you only get one shot at the correct (in my eyes) answer.
No lifelines from the peanut gallery are allowed, this question is only for juanell to answer.

P.S.
Hypothetically , ultimately I did too when one accounts for the fact that Blu-rays normally street on Tuesdays (subtract 1 week from Dec. 28 and adjust one day for Tuesday) …………………

I think a very large percentage of the audience for that particular set is going to want it on BD, if they can get it. If that set was made from newish HD transfers (such that the BD production costs would be minimal), I'd call it a no-brainer. On the other hand, if any additional investment at all is needed, you're going to pretty quickly run up against the market ceiling for those movies in any format and I would say 'no go', sadly.

I'm very curious to see how The General fares.

As an addendum, I'd say that some additional costs could be absorbed if the set were released by Criterion, given their two bonus markets:

the "If it says Criterion on it, I'll buy it- full stop" crowd

and the "If it says Criterion on it, it'll be on my radar when it otherwise wouldn't and I will consider it" crowd.

Ah, Cliff. What a mensch.

I actually briefly looked at that thread, amused to see people challenging Vincent (of all people) regarding the transfer.

Oy.

However, let's not lose the sight of Cliff's larger point - there are certainly moments here at BD.com where "level headed" discourse prevails, but there remains a need to be vigilent, to not let the same type of format worship/bashing cloud rational thought (or respectful debate).

As for the Panasonic/Clerks 2 authoring issue regarding the need for SD media, that's yet another example (long known) where BD QC is (often) if it works on PS3, then we're golden... I've been around this format not to expect any different, despite owning both a BD10 and an Oppo.

Cliff, I welcome your contributions, sorry to see you got pushed to your limits (understandably), and look forward to seeing where you'll be posting your informed remarks in the future.

[Additionally, I do think it remains important to note that those sections of AVS that do -not- directly involve BD shenanigans remain, from my reading, one of the more colegial and informative on the web. I also have respect for mods like Mark Rubin that have been put through an incredible amount of idiocy over the last several years, remaining relatively calm and cool throughout.]

I do hope, finally, that once this latest fad clears we'll go back to adressing actual issues respecfully, that insiders and reps will be honest and forthright when compromised transfers are genuinely uncovered, and that quality continues to be the utmost goal for all involved (rather than banal cheerleading).

Oh, and Penton? I'm afraid that the Noir set wouldn't sell well at all, alas. Perhaps by this time next year we'll see that sort of thing able to warrant the premium for BD release, but at some point in time we're going to see, unfortunately, the "DVD is enough" momentum (let alone VOD) take over for all these niche releases.

In other words, is the timing now right, or do you think 99% of the installed Blu-ray users still are only interested in watching sci-fi, superhero and mystic titles?
Did anyone at all on this forum watch this flick on Blu-ray?
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ar#post2486891
Good afternoon Penton,

Yes, I think that the time is right. The installed base is what you make of it. Classics, Noirs, Silent Cinema are covered on a number of different forums now, and I don't mean English-speaking forums only.

To quote a certain star:

"If you build it, he will come"

Penton,

Speaking of Criterion, have you heard any rumblings or buzz on more studios working in conjunction with Criterion on upcoming releases similar to Benjamin Button? I was thrilled to see Fincher bring them into the fold for that release and was hoping it may be a sign of things to come with his titles or just studios altogether for certain titles.
