Oh...my... God...

You know that crazy chills you get when you see something so amazing, so incredible, it just makes you happy to be alive to have seen it?

Treme... The Wire with music... Stunning, stunning cinematography, ridiculous soundtrack, funny, sad, smart, weird, beautiful. This is just the pilot, and I'm simply blown away.

Just..... wow. Get HBO. Sign me up for the BD. Fly me to NOLA to whatever fan convention. It's 20 minutes done and I'm still reeling...

Man. David Simon, et. al., thank you for making television that surpasses nearly every film of the last four decades.

A pin-registered scanner, or analogue printer for that matter, literally positions a single frame for reproduction held in place by a registration pin through a sprocket hole. Pin-registration generally yields a more stable image. However, in the analogue world it can affect the image in others ways as the work is performed on an optical printer.

In terms of overall steadiness, the image is affected by precisely what element is being pin-registered, as movement can enter the fray with each subsequent generation.

In the digital world, pin-registration becomes less of an issue, as any harvested image can be digitally stabilized. In both analogue and digital, a registered image uses more time, and therefore will generally be more expensive. It's best to know one's elements and needs before jumping to any decision.

I've asked about this movie to insiders a couple times before, but now I have a new inquiry concerning it!

I think it would be nice if Sony folks looked into the proper aspect ratio of the anime Metropolis movie. It has been presented in 1.85:1 on DVD so far, but even from my first time viewing, it looked cropped in the many shots where characters are shown at the very bottom of the screen.

Sure enough, clips of the movie in the making-of documentary show more information at the top and bottom (but the sides remain the same). I took snapshots and cropped the black bars in Paint, but I always get a different ratio (though I got a perfect 1.66:1 on my first clip).

I normally wouldn't care about this. It depends on theaters, and 1.85:1 is the standard for many regions. But the way this movie is composed, this is actually distracting to me. And since Sony is thankfully taking its time to release this on Blu-ray, maybe it would be worth checking into?

you would be shocked to know how many anime are produced 4:3 and later cropped, even in 2010. Rest assured this was taken into account when it wad created

Still remains that 1.85:1 may not be the intended ratio.

I read a user review that the Japanese BD has black bars on the sides, which would correspond with a 1.66:1 ratio. However, knowing Bandai, the user probably meant to say that it had black bars on all four sides (overscan protection). Too bad I could find no professional reviews with screenshots.

As someone who has regular contact with the studio who made the movie, I assure you that the fact it would be shown in 1.66 and 1.85 theatrically was taken into account during production

Alright. I take it you mean that whatever was published on DVD was approved as OK. It's just that, if 1.66 was also approved, I think they should have gone with that, as 1.85 looks bad in some shots. But you can't fight something that's director approved, so I'll be dismissing the case. :P

Crystal here (penton’s Administrative Assistant) posting for him while he’s attending the 2010 NAB show. He asked me to offer this info to all “budding 3D filmmakers” to give them a head start -
http://sonycompetition.3dworldmag.com/prizes/

How to enter –
http://sonycompetition.3dworldmag.com/enter/

He said to tell everyone that he personally purchased a new camera (for his own use) at NAB which although isn’t 3D was a real HD bargain at a special show price of $200. He'll tell you about it when he returns.

He also recommended to me informing Mr. Shark that I am married so not to waste his time hitting on me.

*Zing!*

How does one even hit on somebody on an internet forum?

Here - "Hey, Crystal, nice boob."

And I mean, of course, the boob that's your boss...

Like bags of sand, no doubt...

You’ll have to take that up with him when he gets back.
Meanwhile he said he’s a little disappointed that the web guys put “Maya” at the bottom here-
http://sonycompetition.3dworldmag.com/video-tutorials/

because he mentioned you guys have seen pictures of his Maya before which
I don’t know how to find on this forum and she’s “one top dog”. I told him he’s lucky I found a nice hotel in Vegas for him (Four Seasons Hotel) that accepts domesticated canines, and even offers special amenities just for them like turn down service etc. as they took their Pomeranian with them to Las Vegas.

I doubt they would let a 60 lb. coyote in the door whether or not penton had her on a leash or not.

I hope you have a camera handy when you tried to get her on the leash Youtube gold

And BTW, terrible, just terrible on Maya

Penton always struck me as more of a labrador/man's best buddy type guy, unless the Pom's the wife's?
