At first I was a bit concerned with the, "As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly."

I panicked and thought this meant that Paramount will wait until Blu-ray becomes more mainstream, let's say after the 2008 holiday season, which would be doublespeak for them to not only cover their contract, but also to reap all the benefits from it, as well.

But then the article mentions that we should be seeing releases from the two holdout studios in late spring, early summer.

And the Mntwister post seems to suggest that this is true.

By the way, I'm glad this post didn't directly follow the Nat Portman image. Talk about getting upstaged! Easier to be noticed following a pic of Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Brrr, it's cold!

Penton-Man,

I'm sure you remember the 'stalemate' comment Howard Stringer made last November. At the time, I thought it was a roundabout way of telling the studios (and more specifically Warner Bros) that if they wanted things to move, it was up to them to take a stand. With the subsequent chain of events, I'm even more persuaded that's what he meant. Am I correct?

What's with all this Paramount stuff? I am psyched to go to my nearest purveyor of western prime beef to get a couple of USDA Prime ribeyes for this evening.

Being a JD, it must be the power of suggestion ...

I appreciate the work of all the Insiders, but Penton has to get his due. NOBODY has worked harder than Penton-Man in this format war. I have no idea who Penton's boss is, but this dude (Penton) has to get a raise.

Amir Penton-Man.
I wouldn't want to slight any of the other Insiders or anyone else who has fought the Blu war behind the scenes...

they all deserve an equal amount of praise....

and trust me, there's plenty to go around right now

Penton,

So now that everything is out in the open, can you talk about what the Lionsgate vice-charman Michael Burns said and why he said it at the time?

Guys, a little clean-up was needed on this thread as some posts were becoming a little too political so, the moderators ask that you not take anything personally if something got inadvertently deleted.

The list is indeed long and distinguished.
Perhaps on a rainy day when things are going slow, someone should compile a list of his *bash-ees" for the historical record as I didn't read their Insider's thread regularly after paidgeek walked away.

That’s nice to hear and I respect your input.
If your sister is interested in becoming an official Paramount insider on this forum please have her PM me or one of the mods so that she can be vetted (undergo the credentialing process).

B.T.W., if she reads this thread, tell her we're not all pervos – just Blu-bloods with an unabashed appreciation for all things beautiful (outside and in).

Long story short.
Last summerish, unbeknownst to the common public (well, at least nobody brought it to my attention as being discussed on the internet forums), a certain consumer elecTronics company (that is probably now spending more time selling refrigerators) approached the gate of the Lion with red suitcases and attempted to influence a content provider ala the Paramount pay-off.

Word has it that, Michael was so infuriated that this elecTronics corporation would have the gall to think that his studio was the weakest link in the Blu chain so as to offer them a pay-off that…… when he was interviewed by BusinessWeek and revealed that the rumor was WB was going Blu, it was an *in your face* to that particular consumer elecTronics company for misreading his studios fortitude concerning staying Blu.
