I have used a butt splicer, but much prefer the guillotine. They are both better than using cement. |

I can't imagine there wasn't an out clause. Sounds like they don't want to prorate any compensation they've been given, and they're hoping Toshiba won't call their bluff and make them do it if they make it public.

I think Dreamworks Animation stands to make SIGNIFICANTLY more money by holding up their end of the contract than they ever would by releasing titles on Blu-ray. If they can force Toshiba to pay up, might as well take it!

it sounds like toshiba was dumb and forgot to included an escape clause for themselves if they stopped producing hd-dvd. dreamworks is just taking advantage and letting tosh know that they're willing wait out the contract and keep collecting the $$$$

Speaking of which, I took in Charlie Bartlett yesterday (was ok, but nothing great) and it reminded me how much I like the digital cinemas. They were using film, the image was not properly centered, the gate was HORRIBLE causing the image to look like Bourne 4 the entire time, and we were in the center of the theater and could hear the projector like it was set up right next to us. It reminded me more of the crappy science films I used to watch in school, not a theater showing. ![]() |

![]() Ah well, were I work we have 8 35mm projectors and a single 70mm which is not in use though. Our commercials are digitally shown though from ProjectionDesign projectors - 2K res in the bigger auditoriums. It looks good and sharp, but I just like the image form a pristine film source better... ![]() |

![]() After Ruzowitzky and "therefor Austria" took the Oscar home this year it takes a whole lot more to get me upset right now ![]() btw I am not saying I disagree with you about 35mm vs. digital (4k). My days as projectionist (college time) are a few years back now with no real intention to ever go down this path again... Nevertheless the feel and touch of an 35mm film strip in the palm of my hands probably is were all this passion has its roots. |

Haven't touched anything but still film (still have my own darkroom and a wind up BOLEX on a shelf) in a number of years though. Video stuff is all server based now. ted |

However, for a top notch 35mm presentation. A fresh print on a modern properly calibrated projector. I have not sen a digital presentation that can compare. Never a projectionist, but shot a lot of 16mm, still use my 35mm slr. I'm ok with digital taking over, it just needs to equal the warmth, color and beauty of film. We have a habit of replacing things with newer tech before it meets or exceeds the old one, for the sake of convienience. |
