Hmmm. IMAX showed some DMR remastered clips from Everest at a laser demonstration recently and they were 2K so I'm not taking that as gospel. As for your googling, are you actually reading the links or just taking the search results at first hand? I can't find anything relating to a 4K DCP for Edge of Tomorrow for example, and upscaled youtube trailers don't count.

As for Gump, that was finished on film so they can do a new 4K transfer of it whenever they like. (And there were some movies that were actually finished in 4K on the Samsung UHD pack, like Night of the Museum and X-Men Origins Wolverine, but others like Pi and STID were upscaled.)

For the others: If you Google on the film title + 4K DCP results pop up.

I am just assuming here and I read magazines too,

Parkcircus has a lot 4K DCP's in their collection. One of them is 'Forrest Gump'. Which was one of the title on Samsung's UHD package, when you bought a UHD TV, couple of years ago.

90% of films on those HDD's were upscales

"A new DEG coordinated Blu-ray “Elite” disc package will feature a carbonized black color with metallic silver text and logo. The 4K Ultra HD logo will serve as the header of the package and the Ultra HD Blu-ray logo will be featured on the spine, back cover and disc.

The DEG said a new header will help to differentiate Ultra HD Blu-ray movies from current Blu-ray titles and is aligned with the 4K Ultra HD message used by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA, formerly known as the CEA) to promote the latest compatible televisions."

4K? I expected them to drop that in favour of the Ultra HD Blu-ray logo. also 4K is more associated with the DCI spec, not the Ultra HD Blu-ray spec. They said the industry was distancing themselves from the 4K moniker.

There's a bit more here on Twice.com http://www.twice.com/thewire/deg-ann...-hd-disc/59370

Quote:
The package, which was developed in cooperation with Anchor Bay Entertainment, HBO Home Entertainment, Lionsgate, Paramount Home Media Distribution, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, is intended to drive more rapid adoption of the new Ultra HD Blu-ray format as well as create greater overall consistency in merchandising and messaging.
Quote:
Additionally, the new Ultra HD Blu-ray package is flexible enough to allow for either single disc or combo pack options; the latter of which provides consumers with both 4K UHD and Blu-ray HD versions of the movie or TV program. The package’s “future proof” design is versatile enough to add a variety of other new features, including High Dynamic Range (HDR) and the latest immersive audio formats.

I won't be able to get a 4K tv for quite some time. I'm glad they are doing combo packs so I can get the 4k releases for the future and still have a blu-ray to play.

I have the Epson 5030 pj, and it doesn't accept a 4K source. If it did, I would buy a 4K player as soon as it's released. This will be the first new format I don't get right away. I got DVD on day one, and did the same with HD-DVD and Blu-ray. But I will definitely purchase some of these combo packs to help the new format; I always want physical media to be viable.

The players will downconvert to 1080p and still look better than a straight Blu-ray and you'll probably have more opportunities for immersive surround.

Interesting. But I don't think the Epson HDMI is compatible with the new format. I would love to be proven wrong, though.

That's why it will down-convert to 1080p. Even those early adopters of non-HDCP 2.2 compliant UHD displays will only get 1080p unless they get a 2.2 stripper for a couple hundred bucks like HD Fury and a few others being mentioned at CEDIA.

If it's true that the player will work in my system, then I'll get one pretty soon after the launch. Thanks for the info.

Will the Ultra HD discs be barebones like 3D blurays are or will they contain all the same features as the regular bluray has?

Much depends on the studios marketing strategy for physical media going forward... superbit-style deluxe transfers and encodings with extras on a separate disc in order to justify the higher prices or a minimalistic effort.

For those saying they don't have a 4K TV, Best Buy's ad dropped and they have a lot of options are steep discounts. 55" 4K for $799.99. I am researching reviews, as another member mentioned that a similar model in the naming scheme does NOT support 24p so movies lag, and Samsung apparent;y markets "Clear Motion 120" which is really native 60Hz. The model on sale is different from the ones reviewed, so gotta wait for that, but for the size and price, I might try it out.

Thanks for this! Finally some additional title announcements. Wish they had gone ahead and thrown Bad Boys II in there.

So glad I only have to worry about getting a player when I decide to upgrade to UHD BD now!
