Sony had a similar Dolby collaboration press release for HDR and Atmos. At CES nary a word about UHD Blu-ray and yet a player is forthcoming and discs this year as well.

Apples & oranges though. Sony already had announced their Ultra Blu-Ray titles back in November. And they also mentioned in their Dolby Vision announcement.

you must look at the key words:

HOME VIEWING EXPERIENCE

CATALOG TITLES <----they dont release old movies in DV at the theater. that precious limited space is for new releases only.

I spent some time today with Philips at CES. Very nice design and build quality on their 4K Ultra HD BD player. BTW, when I suggested they permit authorized dealers the to take pre-orders they agreed to do that.

The Philips high-end TVs look very good, back-lit LED, full array locally dimmed and one nice looking 65" 4K Laser TV, model # 65PFL8900.

Yes, dual HDMI 2.0A with HDCP 2.2 and USB 3.0. Yes, HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR ready.

Wi Fi and Ethernet hard wire port.

I'm getting all of the technical specs Monday, January 11th.

Too bad Philips no longer sells their TVs & DVD/Blu-ray Players in the US. The only products I see from them these days are headphones, light bulbs & electric toothbrushes & shavers. Unless that is going to change with their HDR line?

That was true until today's CES show opened.

Philips brand in the USA is owned by Funai Electric Co., Ltd. headquartered in Osaka, Japan. I know Funai from my TV Broadcast days, but they are know for being the manufacturer of Lexmark printers and DIRECTV equipment and are a highly respected CE manufacturer.

Philips new 2016 TVs and 4K BD players are shipping this spring/early summer in the USA.

Update. Sony Pictures 4K HDR movies will be stored on a shared cloud server and once you buy the movie you can download it onto your 2016 Bravia XBR TV as often as you like.

That's great! Before I started buying Sony products, Philips was the brand I'd always buy. Never had an issue with their TVs or DVD players(this was years before Blu-ray... lol).

Is the Philips BDP7501 UHD Blu-ray player compatible with Dolby Vision?
Thanks

I really have to wonder if Sony's absence from the uhd bd player scene at ces is because they actually are working in an update for the PS4/new model to be announced some time in first half of the year. E3 is in June which would be an ideal platform for a major announcement like that, although February has seen PlayStation events where all the media attention is solely on them, possibly a PSVR pricing and release date announce and UHD update as the icing on the cake.

dafuq? Is that tiddler the Philips UHD Blu player? I've never minded their players though, solid if not spectacular performers. Also had one of their 21:9 TVs once.

Makes you wonder why the Samsung & Panasonic players are so large, doesn't it? lol

To be fair the panasonic one's a beast because it's got loads of fancy DACs and whatnot for the analogue outputs, the Samsung one's hardly gigantic though.

Looking at it more the Philips one isn't as small as I think it is, the disc drawer alone has got to be 5+ inches wide at the minimum so it's more like the size of a dinner plate, not a teacup!
