Heck, they're still doing 2k DI's for many major motion pictures! You're stuck with 2k 3D for some time to come. |

On film perhaps but digitally it's next to no problem. Granted it will probably need a new projector.

On the film distribution side, new 8k projectors necessary for passive 4k left eye/right eye and digital readers are hugely expensive. Many theaters still only have 2k projectors. Do the math. This is an uphill battle. 4k 3D on UHD Blu-ray is technically possible with frame packed MVC-like extensions to H.265 and the UHD Alliance and BDA could probably add it very soon, but until Hollywood is ready to distribute the films to theaters it will not happen. So the studios should be dipping into older film catalog titles without CGI or titles made for 4k like Gone Girl, Interstellar and such not 2k mastered 3D titles |

Undeniably titles with true 4k masters will benefit from this format much more than titles that don't and every studio has thousands of movies shot on film with no CGI that could get a 4k master easily so picking these 2K 3D titles as launch titles makes no sense to me and is damaging to Ultra HD Blu-Rays success |

just outta curiosity, is there anyone in here with an HDR tv that has access to amazon prime and MGO? it sounds like everything in most of these threads on bluray.com is all speculation and not many people own HDR tvs, not trying to be offensive just an observation ive noticed.
I do have something interesting to share. yesterday, amazon updated 3 of its 4k nature documentaries to HDR. whats interesting about these, is how old they are. 2 of them are from 1995, the other is from 2003. All 3 of these are IMAX documentaries. Your first thought (and mine is well), is that any type of HDR conversion of something 20 years old is going to be junk. Well, myself, and probably you, are dead wrong. I was absolutely stunned at the quality. The colors are just simply stunning. HDR makes everything look 3D, so watching these nature documentaries (they focus on water areas, like exotic fish and water activities in exotic areas). the visuals were simply stunning with color and detail and depth to the picture. no SDR can match even a 1995 documentary thats been regraded with 10 bit HDR. its just crazy good looking. heres some pix, but im warning you now, the pictures do not do it justice. the colors are much richer and more vibrant in person. |

On the market for at least 2 years now, the Barco Alchemy systems are capable of 4K 3D up to 30 fps/eye on a single projector; however, the stumbling block is that the 4K 3D DCP is not standardized by SMPTE.

When 4K 3D does appear I hope they standardise the glasses as they said they were going to do. |

Discussed here on Blu-ray.com, I’d say significantly before the time it became fashionable to speak of, or refer to, ST 2084 and its significance to HDR by others on other Audio Video websites. |

Bails, problem is (for 3D aficionados)...that there is a relative lack of interest in 3D by studio executives now. If needed I’ll refer you to the pertinent panel discussion when I have more time to find thee old videoclip from NAB 2015 which I attended.
