To upscale or to rebuild, that is the question...
Cant films that are finished in 2k be remasterd to 4k ?

UHD-BD better launch soon!
Reminds me of all the hoopla they made several years ago about DD+ and 7.1 titles. Last I looked (in recent months) they had less than 20 titles. When one considers what a tiny library of UHD titles Netflix has, I certainly would not get excited about VUDU UHD titles.

Note, there is no mention of how these titles will be viewed. Too bad there is no VUDU app on the Sony FMP-X10, if there was one then I might have a chance to try VUDU UHD titles should they become available.

Why? Nothing would be gained.

Unfortunately what manufactures are going to do is outside of my arena. I'd have to assume though that some will support legacy 3D.

I should clarify my answer that most of the time 4:2:0 will be the chroma subsampling. And no, I can't explain that further yet.

I, myself, was in favor of retina scanning as that is undefeatable.

I'm guessing that you don't particularly like SeeQvault or any other DRM, as for Prima cinema that's the first I have heard of it. There was another service that I knew of but it wasn't available here I can't remember its name though it allowed you to stream films the day they came out.

How is it at NAB, anything Ultra HD Blu-ray there?

It's called a "snowball effect". Look how many titles came out for Blu-ray in 2006. How many movies were in HD in 2001-2005 when HDTVs were available and becoming mainstream? 4K may be at a trickle but it's growing.

Actually quite a few, they were available on D-VHS D-Theater (I still have a player and 5 titles). There was no mistaking a D-Theater title, in general they looked much better than their DVD counterpart.

The same can not be said of the titles available via Sony 4K Unlimited. I have previewed, via my Sony FMP-X10, several titles that interest me and not a single one is worthy of a upgrade over the Blu-ray counterpart.

Yes, the original film negative (or digital files) straight from the camera can be remastered in 4K, but the CGI elements added during post-production will only resolve at 2K, if the film was originally finished in 2K.

This is what Sony did with several of their 'Mastered in 4K' titles.

This quote from Warner gives me hope that the Vudu UHD content will be true UHD:

Quote:
In January, Warner Bros. announced several 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision titles. They were Edge of Tomorrow, Into the Storm, and The Lego Movie. Since then, Warner Bros. said it committed itself to “a steady pipeline of new and remastered 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision titles.” They will include such titles as Man of Steel, Sherlock Holmes, and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

Not saying otherwise Peter . The point was that I loved the timing of the tie-in. Please don't reveal the results of the past weekend's Manchester Derby as I haven't gotten round to watching it yet.

Already back home now. Main impetus for me was Day1 and Day2 of TSC following which I got through all I needed to see/do in the halls by the next day. Plus, I need time at home to prepare for a 25th Anniversary Otter thing coming up in Monterey, Ca. - well, Laguna Seca to be precise.

I’ve watched the first half so far and it is….a horse race between Man City’s front line and Man U’s goalkeeper.....coming straight at one another to the ball.

With Vizio HDR stands for High Defect Return (rate).

They make no mention of HDMI 2.0a either only HDMI 2.0 so it's a little confusing as to how this will work, also it's Dolby Vision which regardless as to how good or not it may be there is no saying it will be the format that is used.

People on Telsa in Irvine (Vizio) please send all complaints to PeterTHX, not me. For I put me money where me mouth is and bought one of your 4K tvs….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ox#post9870633

To be perfectly clear Viz, I have no professional or personal relationship with Peter…other than him being a fellow soccer aficionado whom I hear likes to watch the Premier league matches with the volume turned up to ‘11’. (I think the family in the adjacent duplex hates him for it, but I say…hey he’s an avid fan. )
