Well, not for me anyway.
Certainly beats the two alternatives available: UHD digital streaming/downloads or no UHD at all.

I can't deny that I wouldn't be too concerned about it all, however, there's no telling how many people will be alienated by the online registration. Microsoft windows used to do an over the phone registration Mabry they can do something like that but lets face it it would be a whole lot of rigmarole considering that we have never had to do that in the past, also look how pirated windows is with all it's variety of activation methods, in short it wont' last long but if it were to who knows what will happen, honest paying customers with an internet connection have no problems but if you an honest paying customer that only access the internet over you're mobile phone then what are they gonna do? Cord cutters could face problems.

What they could do with is a way that it can access the internet even if you don't have an internet subscription. Have you ever accessed WiFi or 4g without a subscription? You are usually greeted with a way to sign up on sign in so clearly you can connect you just can't do anything. Can't they make a way where it does this without you knowing or needing the internet? It would work over you're power lines the customer would just need to plug it in. The technology exists see power line adapters.

I believe many smartphone subscriptions already include a wifi hotspot app? I use mine all the time at work. So those who only access the internet through their cell phone can probably just turn on the app as needed.

I agree their would be a backlash, but let's not kid ourselves. Market-wise, UHD BD is not even remotely in the ballpark that the Xbox One market is. The studios have little to lose and they'd just as soon as have consumers go digital instead.

If this leak becomes reality, I wonder if the movie purchases will fall under digital domain or still be protected by First Sale?

Looks like a joke that will turn off mainstream consumers and be cracked in 6 months anyway.

It is from July of last year but the Sony document on HDR is an interesting read. It mentions some of the HDR proposals that were considered. Also it is nice to see that the Sony proposal for Ultra HD Blu-ray included 12-bit video.

Apparently WikiLeaks got the information on it all
I am hoping that the ACES 2.0 document was an early draft since it is a bit much to require an online activation every time you put a disc in a different player. At the very least if the studios are going to treat a Ultra HD Blu-ray disc as a digital file they should make it as convenient to watch as one.

There's one out there that claims to remove Cinavia and it's not one of the more well known entities.

Thanks for those. It's interesting that Sony keep saying "time is of the essence" in the UHD BD proposal, they knew that the cat would be out of the bag re: 4K content delivery if this new format took too long to come to market and were aiming for Q4 of 2014(!). Well, that was a long way off from happening for whatever reasons, so we've gotta hope that everything's on course for this year because UHD BD is losing ground every day to 4K streaming. 2016 was always gonna be when it really gets into gear, but a 2015 showing (even just a soft launch) is gaining increasing importance.

With the recent announcement that Sony WILL be bringing an HDR update to their 2015 series sets with 'X-Tended Dynamic Range', this quote from the Sony HDR proposal gives me some hope that they could possibly extend a version of it out to the 2014 XDR sets: "meta might be utilized not only [for] new HDR display, even current display too". A man can dream...

Final details are still being worked out, but there are two significant elements. The first will allow the content stored on the Blu-ray Disc to be exported and played on authorized devices such as tablets, media players, or smart televisions. The second will enable high-definition content stored on a “digital bridge-enabled” Blu-ray Disc to be copied onto local storage media, such as a hard drive in the player or an external drive connected to the player. This will create a digital copy that is bound to the player and allows for a localized library of the consumer’s favorite and most-often-played titles to be stored in the player.

I agree, there's no need to copy all of that crap over especially since it looks very silly when watching a Blu-ray a few years later and you're forced to sit through 10 minutes worth of outdated coming soon previews.

And definitely no 4K 3D, if anyone was in any doubt after what 2themax said (although they appear to be making sure that legacy 3D BD is supported, as I thought they might).

Yes I agree with that comment, what's worse is when you're forced to sit through the advert for Blu-ray itself! There the trailer sits selling the benefits of Blu-ray as if you didn't own Blu-ray or even know what Blu-ray is. Many early titles have this problem. Two films in particular were seemingly advertised across any film I bought, The Proposal and one of the animated films from DreamWorks Madagascar I think it was, it had penguins on surfboards. I have still to see either film to this day as I have no interest in them.

I like this sound of this IF it still means that we can just pop the disc into any 4K BD player and play it without any kind of restriction, online authentication, or the like.

If the quality is the same, I could see using the digital storage option in my living room where my main TV is for sheer convenience, but still having the option to use the disc in a player in another room of the house (or if the HDD with the digital copy crashes, etc.), a friend/family member's house, etc.

I don't see any way they would not restrict it. Otherwise you could just sell the disc after copying it to your hard drive using digital bridge.

Curious as to whether copying the movie means just 1080 HD or full UHD. But the wording in the article indicates that it would be just HD. If so, it wouldn't be a very useful feature for me.
