Still, it'll be cruelly ironic if they do go ahead with online authentication because it'll inconvenience the people who ARE law-abiding while Netflix's 4K streams have already been cracked and redistributed on t' internet.
It would be the ultimate of cruel irony if UHD BD requires internet but Vidity doesn't. With the announcement of Vidity, I don't think internet authentication will be required on UHD BD, it would just seem ridiculous, as if the studios were setting UHD BD up to fail.

We know that Fox, Warner and Universal are on board with Vidity, but we don't really know who's NOT on board yet with UHD BD. Fox made a reference to UHD BD in regard to its HDR content coming out, but that's about the only studio mention of UHD BD that I have seen. Would like to know where Sony and Disney stand in all this. Paramount will likely follow whatever Warner does.

A content delay could be trying to get a more unified content front before launching, or the studios wanting to give Vidity a head start, or perhaps they are still trying to work out the final copy protection details before a few studios sign on. Then again, it could be like you say, there might be an announcement at Cedia with a launch shortly afterwards and they are just waiting for Cedia to unveil it all at once.

Geez Geoff, you’re a picky feller, first with the Adam Sandler and now with Showgirls….you got something against highly Razzie nominated films/actors, or what?

While the strippers are strutting their stuff on stage , just imagine how exquisite the shadow detail of the audience foreground would look like with an 4K HDR grade.

hey, I still maintain that one of the greatest benefits to 4K is in skin detail. From what I've seen of 4K streaming content the difference is significantly more noticeable in the more "people" based movies than it is VFX and action heavy flicks.

Kingman looks to be a launch title. I just hope it still sees a release this side of Christmas 2015

Yes, at least if there is no player this side of Christmas 2015 there will at least be content with the included Blu-ray.

No mention of digital bridge which I expected to be plastered all over the cover.

The 4K symbol in the area where the Blu-ray logo usually goes makes me wonder if that package shot is final? Sony seem to be all for 4K but others seem to have distanced themselves from using 4K in favour of Ultra HD. Still the wait continues...

Same here, I thought the idea was to distance UHD from 4K? Still, 4K has gained such traction so quickly in tech speak parlance that maybe they've thought "**** it, let's just call it 4K UHD and be done with it".

And oh look, an "early 2016" launch for Samsung's player. What a surprise.

It ain't the audience I'm gonna be looking at in Showgirls. As for Mr Sandler, I love some of his films but they're not Sony titles (Happy Gilmore and The Waterboy) so I'll continue to disparage Sony's line-up of 4K Sandler flicks, thankyouverymuch.

According to Ron Jones, he posted this at AVS.

Samsung has announced, and shown, their Ultra HD Blu-ray player, model UBD-K8500, at the IFA show this week in Berlin. Price not officially announced but is said to be under $500, but it's not expected to begin shipping until early 2016.

Also in UHD BD news, Fox has announced all new releases will be offered in Ultra HD Blu-ray format as well as HD Blu-ray and DVD formats.

So they are repeating the same mistake (IMO) of releasing too many formats.

Aside from the fact of them not getting rid of DVD, if they're making "4K BD + BD" combos, why release the BD on its own?

Could that be an SD card slot on the front center? If so, the player will have the Digital Bridge and be VIDITY compliant.

"A Samsung product manager told CNET the device will launch in the first quarter instead of later this year because of a delay in setting the standards for UHD Blu-ray products"

http://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-deb...lu-ray-player/

The UHD Alliance is the cause of the delay.

Indeed, but nice of Hanno Basse to make some comments in the Samsung conference.
