You would have thought so but it could be pushing 2018 by the time anyone gets hold of it. Like I said if it's 2018 then fine so be it just let me know so I can spend my money somewhere else.

Press Day at CES started with an LG Bang and ended with a Sony Whimper.
I'm left with the impression that the CE manufacturers got together and drew straws to determine who would have to release a UHD BR player.
Panasonic and Samsung drew the short straws.

Samsung told me March for their Ultra HD BD player.

Panasonic was the only other company announcing a UHD BD player for US distribution. I have a meeting with Panasonic tomorrow and I'll get more details and hopefully price and release date.

Here's a photo from the press conference today that is on my site.

Sony Consumer Electronics announced today that Sony Pictures 4K HDR movies can be downloaded on all 2016 Sony Bravia 4K TVs.

Thanks spectre08, Panasonic's UHD BD player also features 2 HDMI outputs.

One popular use for 2 HDMI outputs would be one HDMI for your 4K TV or Projector and the other for audio only to an older "non 4K" AVR.

More exclusivity and propriatarism when it comes to Sony 4k content. Real smart, Sony. Real smart.

Unfortunately, Sony don't care a jot for physical media 4K UltraHD. Yes, we'll get discs and eventually a player from them, but they're more and more about OTT 4K services.

Oh, and there's me thinking that we European types would be lucky to get the players by the summer IF it gets properly launched in the US in the spring, but if it limps out of the gate then I can see it being pushed to late 2016/early 2017 for us. Might end up being similar to HD DVD in that respect, as the US got the first-gen tech but the Euro launch waited for the second-gen players.

Hopefully this is correct:

Thanks for that, looks like a badass player. Somehow I doubt that one will be $399

The HDTVTest article says the price is likely to exceed £500! No chance of me buying it at that price.

Well, considering that their BDT700 (with various 4K bits and bobs, short of native 4K content playback) still goes for £400-odd then the actual UHD version will surely have a big ol' premium on top. (I know I said the tech was evolutionary rather than revolutionary in another thread, but that's not gonna stop certain manufacturers from making us pay for it )

Good point, I'd of thought that player would of dropped in price by now.

Same here, I thought it would've dropped too (there's a cheaper Euro version, the BDT570, but still). I guess it's because it's so well stocked [edit: in terms of features & build, I mean] compared to the streamlined skinny wretches that still pass for 'premium' players from the other big manufacturers.

Who knows, maybe the release of the actual 4K player will finally see it drop? The Panasonic outlet on eBay sells refurbished 700's for £129.99 but I've never been able to hook one.
