How much of the Rec. 2020 do the current UHD blu rays use?
Going through the Sony ZD9 thread, post 181 shows that TV has 73% Rec. 2020 and 93% P3 post-calibration coverage on CIEUV. Even rtings, shows <80% Rec. 2020 CIEUV coverage for the best set. |

I heard disappointing news from Sony today that their new PS4 Pro will not be built in with a UHD Blu-ray player.
What does it mean for Sony PS4 users who want to play UHD Blu-ray even though this console already has 4K support built in for gaming? Last edited by dublinbluray108; 09-10-2016 at 11:06 PM. |

We're 4 days on from the announcement now and I think people are finally getting over it, the Pro just isn't aimed at them. It's pretty much aimed at the gamer exclusively. And after how poor the PS4 is at playing regular BDs compared to PS3, it's probably for the best I was surprised they didn't include it to be honest, but then I remembered the fact it can't even play CDs so I shouldn't have been surprised. |

It would be a damn shame if after all this time of hand wringing on the part of Sony they still didn't have Dolby Vision support. |

Sonopress has now shipped over one million Ultra HD Blu-rays. Source: http://www.mediabiz.de/video/news/so...ray-aus/411570 Rough translation: "Sonopress-Chied Deutschmann is optimistic for the future. The format is globally getting more and more popular, the demand [on production] of new discs is consistently high. The company expects new impulses with the Xbox One S which can be bought since August." "In the beginning of the year [when they started the production of UHD BD 66 discs] we didn't expect to break the one million mark in only a couple of months. As a pioneer in this area Sonopress is successful. We not only produce for the european market but also a variety of titles are produced for the north-american media market." http://www.4kevolution.de/2016/09/4k...illionenmarke/ Last edited by Wiidesire; 09-29-2016 at 01:48 PM. |

All set up with 4K now.
Picked up one of those HDMI to composite converter cables at Radioshack so I could set the 4K player's Audio Only HDMI cord up with my home theater DVD player for multi-channel audio playback. Everything's perfect with my 4K home theater now. ![]() |

I might probably wait another 10 years or so to purchase this, or if I am really lucky.

4K displays will hardly be around in 10 years. The top-tier will be 8K. Probably middle tier too. 4K players should still be the norm, playing 4K and 1080p discs. Upscale to 8K has been predicted to be AI assisted, new HEVC compressions will be better and more efficient. 8K content will mostly be OTT, maybe some OTA, the HDR will likely be HLG for that content, although Dolby still has some stuff up their sleeve to compete with. This has been your CRYSTAL BALL update. ![]() |
