http://mycea.ce.org/Default.aspx?tab...ails&args=4000 Without purchasing the actual report, I would suggest people listen to the presentation “CEA Research Report: What will drive 3D TV …” by Shawn Dubravac, Chief Economist and Director of Research at CEA, which is 7th from the top of the list to the right, as one scrolls down here- http://www.sportsvideo.org/main/svg-tv/ ^It’s mostly about sports as a driver but, the speaker slightly dabbles in Blu-ray 3D content. Of course, Blu-ray’s upcoming contribution to the home 3D experience merited a full half hour of discussion during the last Blu-Con (4:40-5:10 PM) by the *technology* officers of one CE company and several studios…the names of which, some here may recognize ![]() ![]() http://www.blu-con.com/doc.php?page_id=4 Anyway, without listening to the whole presentation, in particular, concerning gaming… http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/30/ce...-tv-purchases/ Interesting data tidbits from the presentation were that 25% of respondents said they will buy a 3D TV within the next three years. 17% said that they will never buy a 3D TV…but, keep in mind that in 2003 (five years after the 1st HD TV was sold), 33% of households said they would never own an HD set, which seems to bode well for 3D TV sales. The speaker also provides data that gives an indication as to how willing sports fans are to upgrade to 3D despite the timing of when their last HD TV purchase was, which might surprise some people here. ![]() Obviously, home adoption will be driven by access to content which will come first through broadcasting (with sports leading the way) and packaged media like Blu-ray 3D games but, give it some time and Blu-ray movies will provide their share of 3D contribution, especially, if only as a spinoff to the 3D theatrical presentations, the importance of which, can not be underestimated (see the Variety article link)… https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-te...-booms-q1.html |

my guess the headaches are not from 3D. Since it is a small town with one theatre you might ask what equipment it is. In the end our brains are wired to see two different images from each eye, so that is most likely not the issue (and what would be fixed with both lenses having the same image), actually depending on the issues it could make it worst.

According to a friend of mine who has worked on several 3D animated features, there is a small percentage of the population whose eyes have a differing distance between the lens and the retina that twists the image enough that it causes headaches. For example, a friend of mine often has problems with the live action 3D (true 3D less often than the faked). The better the alignment, the less problems people have, but a certain percentage will always have trouble with the "lowest common denominator" glasses
Perhaps in addition to "2D" glasses, they can try other "prescriptions"? I called RealD to ask them about it, but unfortunately they're in an IPO lockdown right now and can't comment on anything |

I’ve been busy making posts(3) on this page…
https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-te...ml#post3221222 about real technology (3D vs. that of faux technology namely, screenshot ”science”). I’ll admit that I do occasionally follow the work of real scientists and real researchers, outside of the motion picture industry, per se, such as this institution (who had a booth at NAB) … http://www.physorg.com/news191777729.html But following the musings of “Kram” is akin to following a fly to the next pile of horse sh*t. It’s not worth your time, unless of course, you’re feeling kind of ornery and like to squash one or two while they’re ‘feeding’…which I assume you had the urge to do. ![]() Anyway, I haven’t kept up with the persistently constipated forum containing the primary screenshot scientists and their apprentices over there in *science* …which makes you wonder... why do they continue to stay in a hobby that makes them feel so unhappy and so unfulfilled on balance most of the time? ![]() First of all, I didn’t even know that “Foxy” was gone in the first place and secondly, I guess his “We Sell Seductive Lingerie, Sexy Ladies Shoes, Costumes and Hot Dresses” business failed or didn’t work out for him because when you click on his longtime url five or six paragraphs down on the right here… http://www.allsitesdirectory.com/sub/lingerie.html (namely “DarkRealmFox”) instead of it taking you to a ladies underwear site which shall we say, was far from ‘shy and conservative’, it now takes you to one of those countless Blu-ray provincial sites which have sprung up like mushrooms all over the internet since the format war ended, all vying for their 15min. of fame. I do admit that when I was a regular member of AVS, I did order and purchase an ‘outfit’ from his place of business as a ‘gift’ for my wife and they did have good customer service. ![]() I wish he’d stayed in the old business. ![]() Foxy, I know you read this thread (our Super Computer says so), although you would never acknowledge it to others online for fear of losing even more AVS membership to Blu-ray.com, but since you are indeed listening…. F.Y.I., I need to read yet another Blu-ray site like I need a hole in the head, so, please bring back the “DO ME” heels!...http://www.darkrealmfox.com/catalog/...or_maintenance as my wife’s got great legs among other physical and mental attributes. ![]() P.S. So, I gave *the outfit* to my wife as a Valentine’s "gift" a couple years back and her response was… “So……….you bought this thing and these stiletto heels for ME” ! My reply… ![]() Last edited by Penton-Man; 05-03-2010 at 02:52 AM. Reason: added a P.S. and then later on a phrase |

P-Man, all this blather about the "scientists" is beginning to hit me on the same level as the periodic waves of format-war revivalism. It appears my internet options have boiled down to:
go there and read AVS or go here and read about AVS I'm not saying you aren't entitled to fester (in your own thread, at the least), but let's talk about some informed topics and lead by example, eh? |

![]() ![]() Then don’t read this thread. You guys seemingly love to ‘call out’ the studios, the filmmakers and the mastering technicians routinely on a daily basis as to something that doesn’t meet your expectations...why can’t I occasionally ‘call out’ forums and specific forum members for their persistent nonsense? Anyway, just for you , I’ll indulge you this morning. ![]() |

Maybe it's just my own skewed perspective. I've hit saturation point for the moment, but... who cares, you know?
Seriously, I'm not trying to beyotch and I hope I didn't come across that way. And, of course, the thing that makes me happiest about this particular avenue is that it's your forum to do with as you please. I'm just "two-cents-ing", probably more loudly than I should. |

Since, I’m getting all artsy-fartsy this morning with outside motion picture links, might I also recommend this series at the UCLA Film and Television Archive to locals…
http://www.cinema.ucla.edu/calendar/..._type=2&id=391 A blending of thee ‘old’ and ‘new’, so to speak. For instance, last Saturday night Steven S. revealed he was planning a project set to begin this autumn which would be shot in stereoscopic 3D. For those who don’t give a hoot about ‘The Art of Cinema’ at U.C.L.A., might I suggest attending the May 13th event as Hugh Hefner himself is scheduled to attend and who knows… he might even bring along an escort or two from the mansion with the more mainstream concept of hooters. http://www.cinema.ucla.edu/calendar/calendar.aspx |
