The Blu-ray spec is geared towards 1080p24 in each plane on 240Hz TVs which the PS3 is fully compatible with (well, as long as you have a 3D capable TV...). On the gaming side there is a handy little slide which explains everything in more detail, but the gist of it is 720p60 for most games built for 3D and ~ 600p30 for games originally in 720p. The last bit isn't on the slide, but it's supposed to be in between 480p and 720p depending on how well the game converted...

^It’s mostly about sports as a driver but, the speaker slightly dabbles in Blu-ray 3D content. Of course, Blu-ray’s upcoming contribution to the home 3D experience merited a full half hour of discussion during the last Blu-Con (4:40-5:10 PM) by the *technology* officers of one CE company and several studios…the names of which, some here may recognize as essentially founders to the implementation of the Blu-ray format itself….

Interesting data tidbits from the presentation were that 25% of respondents said they will buy a 3D TV within the next three years.
17% said that they will never buy a 3D TV…but, keep in mind that in 2003 (five years after the 1st HD TV was sold), 33% of households said they would never own an HD set, which seems to bode well for 3D TV sales.

The speaker also provides data that gives an indication as to how willing sports fans are to upgrade to 3D despite the timing of when their last HD TV purchase was, which might surprise some people here.

Obviously, home adoption will be driven by access to content which will come first through broadcasting (with sports leading the way) and packaged media like Blu-ray 3D games but, give it some time and Blu-ray movies will provide their share of 3D contribution, especially, if only as a spinoff to the 3D theatrical presentations, the importance of which, can not be underestimated (see the Variety article link)…

my guess the headaches are not from 3D. Since it is a small town with one theatre you might ask what equipment it is. In the end our brains are wired to see two different images from each eye, so that is most likely not the issue (and what would be fixed with both lenses having the same image), actually depending on the issues it could make it worst.

According to a friend of mine who has worked on several 3D animated features, there is a small percentage of the population whose eyes have a differing distance between the lens and the retina that twists the image enough that it causes headaches. For example, a friend of mine often has problems with the live action 3D (true 3D less often than the faked). The better the alignment, the less problems people have, but a certain percentage will always have trouble with the "lowest common denominator" glasses

Perhaps in addition to "2D" glasses, they can try other "prescriptions"?

I called RealD to ask them about it, but unfortunately they're in an IPO lockdown right now and can't comment on anything

A blending of thee ‘old’ and ‘new’, so to speak. For instance, last Saturday night Steven S. revealed he was planning a project set to begin this autumn which would be shot in stereoscopic 3D.

For those who don’t give a hoot about ‘The Art of Cinema’ at U.C.L.A., might I suggest attending the May 13th event as Hugh Hefner himself is scheduled to attend and who knows… he might even bring along an escort or two from the mansion with the more mainstream concept of hooters.
