![]() Just teasing you Stacey, as one fine thing that the Red folks did was to make Red Rocket available to filmmakers. For those that aren’t following me, the product makes it possible for real time processing of the compressed files into common RGB formats…the card retails for a robust $5,000. |

![]() But would you believe me if I told you I wasn't a The Who fan? ![]() Intriguing they're going to present it in the original 5-channel. I wonder if they'll use the orignal discrete masters or go with the matrixed version...which is similar to today's Dolby ProLogic II. |

I'll also point out that there are members here who participate in both forums and all to often use their "screenshot" threads to make a point on a particular topic here. So for Penton and others to call out their ridiculous-ness or expose their agendas does a service to our members. Some who might otherwise be unaware. Besides, I could have sworn I heard Penton singing "It's my thread and I'll do what I want to..." ![]() |

Doc,
Isn’t there some PQ tier thread on *the internet* which extols the virtues of ‘eye candy’ and by doing so, rates their Blu-rays accordingly? And isn’t one of the prerequisites to such fine PQ is that of a lot *depth of field* and *dimensionality* exist in the imagery in order for the Blu-ray to be ranked ‘Top Tier’? No need to answer, folks tell me the answer is yes. Well, this info may come as a downer to some PQ tier aficionados in regards to Road to Perdition. I'll quote the camera operator for Conrad Hall from the classic article about the motion picture… ”consistently shot at the bottom of the aperture. We shot a lot at T1.9 to T2.5, which cut down depth of field, made the focal plane more specific and softened the backlight.” ![]() Hell, I’ll quote Connie Hall himself…"I like to shoot wide open, with only one point in the depth of field sharply focused”. With Perdition, I like to call the look ’soft noir.’” ![]() ![]() I ask you sir, how will the PQ tier internet elitists respond to such cinematographic blasphemy ![]() By the way, more ‘information’ which you will not find in the respective thesac article, for those budding filmmakers out there and true cinephiles is that a fabulous example of Connie’s technique is in the scene where the camera focus follows John Rooney and Michael Sullivan as they recede in the background while Michael Sullivan, Jr. almost fills the frame in an out of focus close-up. Great stuff! To those who are wondering, yes I still recognize and appreciate great 2D ![]() |

Now that it is pretty apparent that SPR has a AV sync issue. Is there anyway we can get Paramount to fix it?
I am tired that too many high profile releases are having some flaw of one type or another. It's like they intentionally create these flaws so they have a chance to sell them again down the road as new and improved. Come on! Get it right the first time. I still find it funny to this day the Lucasfilm claims that the L-R swapping of the music track in the surrounds was intentional on Ep. IV. on the DVD release. As far as SPR, there is no excuse that a modern film should have a visible audio video sync error. Again get it right the first time or Paramount/Dreamworks OWN up to it, fix it and replace it. I am seriously considering skipping this release because of this MINOR my arse issue. Penton who do we need to hound to have them FIX IT! |

Well, ‘hounding’ never does much good, it just antagonizes people. If there is indeed a problem, like Denon asks, which is not hardware dependent, I would simply e-mail Bill Hunt about the issue, as he is in regular contact with Ron Smith (V.P. level) over at Paramount.
That would be the most efficient and effective solution if there has truly been some AV synch oversight in the Blu-ray production. I haven’t been following the situation. |

I've tested on both an Oppo player and a Pioneer BD-Rom drive in a computer. There is a slight lipsych of maybe 20 ms or so, but it only lasts for a couple of lines of dialog, then everything is OK again. I've seen much worse. As a test I pulled out my old copy on DVD (the DTS version) and watched the same scene. The lipsynch issue is there as well (less pronounced), although the picture is so damn fuzzy you can't see the lips clearly enough to tell for sure. |
