Unfortunately, most of my riding these days would be classified as commuting; only movies like Inception allow me to live vicariously in the grandeur of the Canadian Rockies these days.

Thanks for the tip.

Peter, I was actually thinking about spoilerizing something NOT included in the trailer(s), like specifically the imagery of the climactic scene.....for one thing, much different looking than our typical afternoon SoCal skies , at least a few miles inland from the coast that is.

Maybe I’ll do that sometime next week if I can think of a cryptic way of spoilerizing it so as not to reveal too much (and thus ruin it) for even the spoiler readers.

That particular year thay actually had to MEDEVAC out a few riders for impending frostbite of their toes because of the harsh weather and getting their feet constantly wet due to the multiple cold stream crossings.

If its got two wheels or four legs, I can ride it.

It’s dismounting (from camels) that I’ve had a problem with in the past. To which Squid Puppet readily offered up the appropriate play on words just to bug me.

That, and I'd like to have Mr. Poitier just read stuff to me on a daily basis... Man, mellifluous tones or what...

That is hard core, and you’re making me long for the days when Mark Brunett was making Eco-challenge rather than faux Survivor fare.

If you stick to your limited rules for animal riding, you are missing out on an adventure.

I spent the better part of a year playing in the light red sands of the UAE, and one thing I managed to pull out of my experiences there was to let the camel do all the work; your job is stay on until the ride has come to a complete stop. By the way, were you a hapless soldier a couple of decades ago?

Penton,

You got any video from your GoPro HD that you can post and share with us? A bike ride through Maya's home? Anything?

I'm so jealous that you got one of those.

Honestly, I haven’t even had time to open it up (the box) and check all the contents.

I’ll try to get something out later this year because right now the vegetation in SoCal is still very thick and wiley Maya and her friends can literally stand a few feet away from me and I can’t see them in the mustard, thistle, etc.
We’ll need a little time for the green valleys to turn into brown rubble and get thinned out. Right now, I’m on a campaign to get approval from my better half to purchase Bobby H.’s camera.

Which reminds me.
One moment.

Yeah, the camel bit is pretty similar to my experience.
In regards to those two-legged gnarley ostrich creatures, I had a feeling you’d bring them up so I had a link handy-

When you’re around them, as I was here…

Yup. "About time", some would say, considering his superhuman (lack of) injury record. For me, it hasn't been as much about his luck in letting crashes roll as much as it's been the insane quantity/difficulty of near-crashes he's managed to save which might have taken any other rider to the Clinica Mobile, as well. In staying healthy, I think his great luck comes a distant second to his great skill.

Anyway, everybody- and most notably, for me, Jorge- was typically tres classy about the proceedings. Hats off! One of my favorite qualities of the "average" MotoGP rider is the tempering of the fierce desire to win with an interest in getting there only by being pushed to their best by their fellow competitors. Nobody wants to win that way.

If there's any man who could recover a championship from this kind of set-back, it's Rossi. However, with the level of competition this year, I think that kind of miracle is even out of all-time-greatest reach.

If Squid wants to be sporting above-and-beyond, he can ask me not to concede yet, but if I were him, I'd only delay in calling this sucker if the disc I want just hasn't been released yet.

It aint over 'till it's over. And it aint over.

IF Jorge finishes the season in a higher position than Vale, I forfeit my prize. My heart, like Lorenzos, wants a true victory, decided by a true battle, not by default.

Let's delay our competition to 2011.

I have a subscription to MotoGP.com where I can watch every practice session, qualifying, interview and press conference in full. You could clearly see that this has deeply saddened Jorge.

I only have allegiance to one team, but I have much respect for the English team. Hopefully we can pull off an upset.

There was a lot of speculation by fans and the media in the first hours following his crash that it might be a career ending injury. The internet is a bustle with rumors of him being crippled and unable to continue, or moving to F1 cars. When I watched him trying to crawl on his hands and knees through the gravel with his ankle bent the wrong way, I knew it was bad (as in game over) but not career ending. Not to belittle the man, or the trauma, but its just a bone.

I broke the same bone (tibia), plus the fibula in the same place at the age of 40. The fractures were quite oblique and required a titanium strap and 16 screws. In the same crash I also broke my clavicle and 4 ribs, one of which tore a hole in my lungs. At 60 days of recovery I thought I was never going to be able to participate in any athletics again because ther was still too much weakness. At 120 days I was back on the track feeling 100%.

Rossi is only 31. He will be back. He's fastest and most determined when faced with strong challenges. Some racers can never shake the memory of the pain, (not the crash) but I suspect Rossi will forget the pain the first time he gets passed. He'll answer the call.

This truly shocks me. Being that he is a DP who appears to be a true purist when it comes to his use of film and achieving true "film look", why on earth would he be against Blu-ray when Blu-ray has been proven time and time again to be able to reproduce an incredibly film-like image at home even on the largest home projection systems? I'm honestly quite baffled here.

Maybe he thinks that Blu-Ray is only a poor substitute for the real thing?

In any case I would like to know what he thought about the IMAX treatment for the 35mm footage that he shot for The Dark Knight.
I thought it looked harsh and not filmlike at all and it would be nice to know that the same procedure is not planned for Inception.
