Criterion Body Double (1984) coming from Criterion?

The information comes courtesy of yoloswegmaster420.

'Body Double' (1984)
De Palma has said he made this comic take on "Rear Window" in frustration, to show those who complained he only cared about sex and violence what a movie would look like if that were true. Set in the worlds of shlocky horror and porn, the surprisingly elegant result features Melanie Griffith's most assured performance as a XXX star who defies our expectations. The movie is soon to be rereleased as a deluxe Blu-ray by the Criterion Channel.

The Criterion Channel doesn't necessarily mean a Criterion physical release.

Correct. But Criterion has a good relationship with Brian De Palma and the film hasn't had a semi-decent release since the Twilight Time release.

The Indicator release was excellent! It had everything the Twilight Time release had, plus new extras. Also it had a new 4K restoration supervised by Grover Crisp. So not sure what you are talking about. I would call it beyond decent.

Excellent movie too!

besides if they meant Criterion channel and the previous blu-ray releases...if Criterion were to release this on DISC it needs to be as a 4K/BLU combo.

The majority of everyone has a blu of this or even 2! so 4K would be my buying point.

I'd rather have the standard Indicator release instead of Criterion. Even a pressed instead of Burn on Demand from Sony would be better.

We shall find out if the reporter knows what they are talking about or if this goes into the file of other movies on the channel or Filmstruck that people assume are coming to Criterion.

This is the one major De Palma movie I've never seen. Would likely make it a point to see this before a buy given my iffy feelings on him.

I finally saw it for the first time earlier this year and it was really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really good.

Have seen none of those actually (but my interest in The Black Dahlia has piqued over time.)

Bin that interest, and watch Body Double instead.

Black Dahlia is not great, so temper your expectations when you watch it. It's mediocre De Palma and nowhere near as excellent as L.A. Confidential. It's personally grown on me over the years, but not something I would recommend someone run out and watch right away.

Body Double, OTOH, is a must see, IF you're a fan of De Palma at his trashiest and sleaziest (with tongue firmly in cheek) and thrillers that are dripping with that mid-80s L.A. aesthetic.

Read The Black Dahlia. Don't watch it. Same for Bonfire of the Vanities.

Like being iffy on Hitchcock because of Family Plot, Jamaica Inn, Under Capricorn, Juno and the Paycock, and Waltzes from Vienna??

All directors have less than ideal movies compared to their best work, but if you haven't seen examples like Blow Out, Carrie, Dressed to Kill, The Fury, Sisters etc.... your opinion is based on gibberish.

You're missing one of Brian DePalma's best movies. See it ASAP.

You are a much tougher judge than I am in general but I love it, its a personal favorite that ticks all the boxes for me. While I'm sure nostalgia plays a part, I'd give it a huge recommendation and I'd like to hear your thoughts after you see it
