If that’s ^ too rudimentary for some new readers to the thread like puze. Here be a bit more advanced.
A discerning person might ask - where did this ‘Barten thing’ …… originate from that Dolby used to create JND steps (visual threshold) and arrive at the conclusion that a 12-bit signal (as in Dolby Vision as opposed to HDR10 or HDR10+) is necessary to prevent banding with the PQ transfer function? Short version, a little background on the Peter Barten model, see 2nd heading “Human Vision and the DICOM GSDF” - https://siim.org/page/displays_chapter3 Long version, p. 17 (published in 2011) - http://dicom.nema.org/Dicom/2011/11_14PU.PDF Long version, p. 17 (published in 2011) - http://dicom.nema.org/Dicom/2011/11_14PU.PDF |

I made a few posts in that sandbox, starting here – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...9#post15602739 .
Some readers who dare enter might learn a little from those as they’re all accurate, even the alleged ‘cognitive dissonance’ post. |

With too much (for my taste) sentiment by a current or former member of another forum trying to campaign an idea on Blu-ray.com, I guess because HTF died long ago. |

Waboman, where are you? I’m surprised you haven’t yet chimed in on a home deliverable update with this situation

We tend to do that a lot with whatever Ruined says. And thanks for the heads up re: AC 11/18.

FYI, Google Chrome 70 is officially out today. It enables YouTube AV1 support. You can enable AV1 here: https://www.youtube.com/testtube
And then use this playlist to test: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...eZUlNUQAVLwrZS Right now it seems to be limited to 1080p on my machine. And I don't have an HDR enabled PC, but maybe those that do can check to see if HDR is working on that RED HDR Reel. |

What did I expect to see in this thread though? I don’t know… not several posts in a row by the same forum member going on and on about behind the scenes Top Gun stuff. Pretty sure we have a ‘Movies’ section where a thread for that stuff probably already exists, and if there isn’t a thread for it, there certainly could be. Maybe the length of this thread should have said enough, I suppose. I guesse the relevant topics for me, at least when it comes to HDR, will be the individual film threads. I said I’d leave well enough alone and buy you all a round if you’re ever in my neck of the woods though. Nobody seems to address the actual point of my long post, which was basically, ‘In my bones I don’t feel my reaction to the thread upon my entry was unwarranted whatsoever, but as I said, my goal isn’t really to rock the boat so, I relent’. Again, no hurt feelings or anything. As far as you Geoff, you’re more than welcome to be straight with me whenever, wherever. I respect your opinion on this forum because you’re not full of hot air… like so many other people out there. Far too many people tend to mistake honesty for kindness, because it always becomes a bad quality when they don’t like when you’re pointing your finger at them. I have no hard feelings though. People, even the best of friends in the world, don’t always agree on things. To take offense merely because you and I don’t see eye-to-eye in this particular scenario would be silly. Don’t ever feel the need to tip-toe around me for the sake of diplomacy. I can take it. I’m a big boy. Promise ![]() |

Heads-up
A few months ago, along with more confidential matters, one of the owners of Blu-ray.com emailed me this “….I recently added a Movies Anywhere section to the site, the whole digital movies space is very fractured so we'll see where it goes ![]() To the later, Digital Hollywood. is going on this week. I don’t know, but there might be a little UHD/HDR talk scattered throughout some of the presentations/panels here - http://www.videodigitalhollywood.com/ I’m informed that a live webcast of a Future of Film panel is on the Wednesday list. Not sure of its content or value though, folks will have to check for themselves. Ted (formerly of RED Digital Cinema) and now with Paramount Pictures is one of the panelists. |

I suspect he’ll do everything he can to keep the ‘crayon thread’ active despite the fact ‘the issue’ presented by the original poster should have been debated out in a few pages at most. Next, I wouldn’t be surprised if sharkshark (Jason from Canada) showed up in that thread in order to keep the premise alive. |
