Now there's someone with experience...seniority. hahah... Someday, you might need something from them. It can be unrelated to a dvd, like maybe watching the kids while you go pick up something at the grocery store. Or it could be something like picking you up if your car breaks down on the freeway. Depending on their personal values, they may remember the dvd situation and may or may not lend the helping that you need. Last edited by secret; 12-20-2008 at 04:43 AM. |

I HATE loaning my stuff out too. I'm anal about my books, and movies. Every time I would loan someone a book I would get it back with the cover folded back! Luckily for me I'm the only person I know who has a Blu-Ray player, so I haven't been asked to borrow my movies yet.

My wife entered into a conversation about Rescue Dawn with a coworker one day and fell into that trap. "Can you ask your husband if I could borrow it?"
I've never even met the person yet I had to let them borrow it because everday my wife came home she said the person stopped by to check and see if she had brought it in. Luckily I got it back but I told her never to mention a movie we watched at the house again.lol |

I later lent out my Batman: The Animated Series box sets to a friend, only to get them back all scratched. I hate being an ass, but you just can't trust anyone to take care of your things, no matter how good a friend they are. |

I just try to avoid the question whenever possible. I usually say, "Oh, Billy Bob's borrowing that right now" or "I got to keep it, cause my G/F really wants to see it" or another random excuse. LEAVE ME COLLECTION ALONE! ![]() |

I have burned enough to know not to lend my movies out. What ends up happening is they take them out after watching them and set them loose on top of the entertainment center or coffee table. With the dust on the surfaces just a little movement can scratch them. If the person wants to see the movie bad enough they can buy it like we did.

i was the early adopter out of my friends and co-workers so, i've been lucky. i have lent some out to a co-worker under the assumption that if they're not returned to me in the same condition that he'll be buying me new copies. so far so good.

This is so hilarious that I too am not the ONLY one like this!!! YEAH! to not lending!! LOL
I really DO NOT like lending people my DVDs or Blu-rays...I like for them to see my colletion, be interested in it, comment on the movies I have but please DO NOT ASK TO BORROW IT!!! And it's not only the disc I'm concerned about...it's also the packaging! There have been a few instances where I have let people borrow some movies and I put the disc in a CD case and when I hand it to them, they have this confused look on their faces all the time like, "where's the packaging??" of course when it's returned there are print marks and a few scratches "GAHHHHH!!!" There's also times when they have borrowed it and watched it but haven't returned it in a while. I hate asking "Oh, by the way, are you done watching the movie I lent you?" it just seems rude, but I want my MOVIE BACK! That's why if I borrow stuff from other people I use it and return it ASAP. I also do not like to ask people if I can borrow THEIR DVDs, Blu-rays or Games even if its something that I really want to see...I just let it go, and walk away. It just opens the doors for THEM to now ask ME if they can borrow any of my items. Bottom line, If it's not yours, people are not going to take care of it (not all people are like this, but you have to agree that there are a few). It's really a bad thing for me because I don't let any of my family members (uncles, cousins or even trusted friends) borrow them. If you want to watch any of my movies, come on over, but you're NEVER going to borrow it! Sorry. I know I may seem like a douche but I'm only like this with my MOVIES....other than that I'm a really nice and caring individual. ![]() Last edited by clrb15; 12-22-2008 at 05:38 PM. |

so i let my friend borrow the godfather trilogy and he let his little 1.5 year old daughter break the inside of the case. the plastic piece inside that is holding the disks that you can flip like a page from a book is dangling from 1 joint instead of being held together by 2 joints. moral of the story is don't let anyone borrow anything that you care about. brother/sister/BFF/anyone...
i now tell everyone to buy their own sht and could careless if i sound stingy. |

If someone was on their deathbed and the only cure they had was to borrow one of my Blu Rays, then he'd be a dead S.O.B.!
I don't loan out the blus for any reason. I work 40+ hrs. a week, and I live with my girlfriend in a city I can't stand, my closest friends are back home..... needless to say, playing video games and watching blu rays are basically my main hobbies. Sure I let my some friends view my collection, and they're welcome to watch them at my house, but there's no way in he11 I'm gonna loan them out. I never ask to borrow other peoples stuff because if I want it, then I'd rent it or buy it myself. |

We're collectors, but not everyone has that mentality. Some people can rip cases or leave discs lying around loose and not be concerned at all. If the box is smashed, they don't even see the problem. That's because they don't see movies (or books) as collector's items. They're looked at as disposable entertainment. These are the people you need to be careful about lending stuff to.

Some of you have some f***ed up friends then.
I will lend out just about anything to my friends, they know if they break it, they bought it. I will end up with a brand new one and they get to keep the borked one. Maybe it's time to re-evaluate your friends. ![]() |
