I only know a few people with a Blu-ray player and they are my friends and we trade back and forth.

I loaned a couple of blu rays to my best friend, but he is about the only one I would loan them to because they are too expensive to risk losing. Frankly I hardly still lend out my dvds, though I have never lost a dvd because I dont just let anyone borrow my movies.

I loan my BD's to my siblings and my best friends (well, to the ones who owns a BD player) and they loan me theirs as well.
You gotta be very selfish for not to loan some BD to your best friend. I mean, I know some of my friends since childhood and they have done amazing things for me. Our friendship worth more than 15-20 bucks.
Anyway I haven't had any problem so far. But if there is some problem, I am sure they will buy me new copy. I would do the same.

My friends that have Blu-ray players are enthusiasts and people I trust. So, for now yes. Once it becomes more mainstream, I will be more selective.

I work with 43 people and not a single one of them have a Blu-ray player and some don't even know what it is. I guess I'm just a lazy couch potato like they say.

i do not loan out any of my movies anymore i used to a couple years back and certain people would borrow 6-10 movies at a time. And they would not even watch them, and it would take forver to get them back.It took me almost a year to get Lost Season 1 back. GRRRRR. Recently i just get blu rays for new releases and no one else has a blu ray player . Problem solved HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Haven't had the question of lending it out since most of my friends don't have a blu-ray player yet, but if it were asked it'd probably only be if I was there to watch the movie too.

I've only ever borrowed and lent out my Blu-Rays once. A buddy of mine who has a PS3 (I think) got back with his girlfriend and called me up to see if he could do an exchange at the last minute. I lent him ACROSS THE UNIVERSE and GONE BABY GONE and he lent me SUPERBAD and SUNSHINE.

He loved the latter, wasn't too impressed with the former.

I keep asking him if I can borrow his 5 disc Blu of BLADE RUNNER since he swears by it and I'm still trying to see the big deal with the film. But he's not into the PLANET OF THE APES set I have or anything else, really.

I would actually like to be loaning out my Blu's more often. But among my friends, there are only two that I know for certain have actual Blu-Ray players and a sizable collection. I keep waiting for the library to start stocking Blu-Rays, but when I talked to a guy there about it, he looked at me as if I was describing alien technology.

I lent out my DVE: HD Basics on Blu several weeks ago and still don't have it back. I will NOT be lending anything out anymore!

There sure are a lot of stingy people on this thread. Won't let friends borrow Blu-rays at all? Coming up with fibs to tell friends as excuses? Wow.

For me, it depends on the friend. I generally will let friends borrow stuff. But they only get to burn me once. If I have to bug them multiple times to get it back, or it comes back damaged, that's the last time I'm lending anything to them ever.

I do write down that they're borrowing it in front of them. I explain that I do that because otherwise I'm liable to forget that I lent it and who I lent it to (this is entirely true). It also has the side effect of making it more official and something they're more likely to take seriously.

If the item is not replacable (ie. no longer available for purchase), then I'll generally be stingy with it. And I'll be honest about that.

I will not let friends sit on the item indefinitely. That's how problems really happen. If they've had a Blu-ray for a while and still haven't watched it, I'll ask for it back anyway. They can borrow it again some other time when they actually have time to watch it if they like. If they give me any guff about returning it, then that's the last time I'll lend to that friend.

So I guess my overall approach is burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me.

I will only loan to my dad, uncle, and best friends who are just as paranoid about loaning movies out.
