Question Do you loan out your blu-rays?

Should one be strict when it comes to loaning out your blus to friends or family? My buddy really wants to borrow one but im not sure how fragile they are and if I should allow someone else to handle my precious discs.

If they are friend or family and are responsible then it shouldn't be any problem. They are no more fragile than a DVD or CD as far as their physical integrity.

I don't mind loaning them out, as long as they find their way back!

I've loaned a few to a fellow Blu-ray.com member, who lives nearby.

Do I loan out my Blu-rays? That's a big N-O right there, man. If they want to see the movie so bad, they should just rent it on DVD.

I only loan to people who take good care of their own discs / cds / movies.

No one has asked to borrow any of mine, yet. There is a VERY small circle of people who I would easily let borrow them. I've had some very bad DVD loaning experiences with those outside "the circle of trust."

As long as I know the person well enough to know that they'll take care of them. I don't have many friends with blu-ray players though.

And without any finger prints or scratches.

One time I let a friend borrow a blu-ray (Doomsday) and he return it without the case and the disc had scratches all over it. That made me upset. So I made him buy me a new copy.

So now I don't let no one borrow my blu-rays.

I took "Up" over to the neighbors, so their kids could see it.... (on DVD... they don't have a Blu-ray player)

A day or so later my "Other" neighbor called me and said "I saw they had this, they said it was yours..... etc. etc.... can I borrow it...... I didn't want to take it without asking you"

This neighbor has a Blu-ray player.... so I actually said.... "Wait, I'll be over there with the Blu-ray" and I gave that neighbor the Blu-ray.... I could have just said "sure... borrow the DVD" but the Blu-ray is great.... why not spread the love around eh?

I only know two other people with blu-ray players and one of them still buys/watches dvd. I ask him why and he just doesn't want to pay the price for the blu edition...he spends all his extra cash on ps3 games though. The other one never buys movies. Strictly a renter.

I'm very very careful with my collection even when i only had DVD i was picky about who borrowed my movies. When Batman Begins came out i lent it to my friend and til this day 4 YEARS LATER i still havent gotten it back from him no matter how much i reminded him. I gave up and just bought the blu when i got my player.

As for my blu rays i won't loan those out i work hard for the money needed to get those things

Like anything, there are people you can trust to lend things to and people you cannot.

I remember in high school I lent one friend of mine my copy of Starsiege: Tribes and after two weeks I got it back, scratched up and with a smashed jewel case. It turns out that it got passed around the school and went through 15 people before it got back to me.

My close friends whom I know will take care of things can borrow any movie as long as I have watched it already. We lend each other things all of the time, you just have to know who you can trust.

My uncle lent me a shotgun for deer hunting for 2 months and I've let my friends use my rifles for target shooting. They range in cost from $100-600 and can turn into a pile of rust if they are not cleaned properly after shooting, but I trust these people so they can borrow my stuff as long as they want to.
