Blu rays, yes. The coating for scratch preventing has held up well so far in my experience. They always come back with no more than finger prints, while dvds from the same people come back occasionally with scratches. That doesn't mean I'm still completely worry-free, though . And I always keep slipcovers at home if lending out.

All the time. My only two rules (and even they are constantly broken) is that I don't loan them my "unseen" movies and no horror films in October.

The first rule is simply because of the fact that since I paid for it I am entitled to see it first. But for example I received my Avengers BD while we were away and so my sister picked it up with the mail, so i told her she can watch it, by the time we came back it was October and so I knew i would not have time to watch it so I let my BIL keep it since he and the kids did not finish it. There was no use keeping it on a shelf for over a month, when someone else could enjoy it.

My second rule is simply that I take part in 31 days of horror so I don't want someone to have the film I decide to watch. so unless I am sure I would not be watching it, I would rather have it at home.

Note, even though it is not important in this thread, unseen is any BD that I bought and have not seen, it does not mean that it is a film I have not seen. I might have seen the film in theatres or on DVD or on TV or on VHS........ or even on a previous version on BD. But only that I did not see that particular item in its entirety.

PS. if someone wants to borrow a season of TV or a film in a box set, then they get the whole set. I won't split things up.

PPS I guess I have not had the bad experience some of the guys in this thread have had and so the way I see it the more views an item gets the better the bargain.

I'll let my flatmate borrow my blu rays but that's about it. He'll pretty much ask for a film, take it, watch it and then give it straight back to me. That's fine with me.

If I'm at home and have a travel case with a few blus in then I'll let my family watch them but I won't let my sister borrow them as she's 4 years older than me and still can't hold discs properly, resulting in any disc that she does touch getting covered in prints. Last summer I was staying at my parents' for a few weeks whilst I was between apartments. My sister was in town for a few days and I got back from work to find that she'd opened up my boxes full of blu rays and pulled them all out to see what I had and then, once she realised the blus weren't in their cases, she just left them. She found my carry case of blus and watched three films. One she left in the player, two discs were left on top of the player and all three were covered in fingerprints. Needless to say I wasn't happy. She's never had any respect for other people's things and has always treated anything under my parents roof as if it's hers.

I also really dislike it when I say I've got a film and people say "Aw I want to see that. I'll borrow it off you sometime". Sorry what? That's a bit presumptuous. Some people seem to think that because I spend my money on blus I want to be some sort of free rental service. People have different hobbies and choose what hobbies they want to spend their spare money on. I choose to spend my money and time on my interest in HD film/television, music, good food and going out and socialising rather than sports, cable TV or one of the various other things one might spend their money on. It may seem a bit selfish but I spend a lot of money so I can watch my films and TV series in HD so when people think they can just have free access to my collection which I've spent a fair bit on I feel rather reluctant to share my discs.

And I'm perfectly fine with inviting a friend or some friends round to watch a film they want to see that I may have. People come round to watch films at mine a few times a month. I even went through the whole of Band of Brothers with some friends over a couple of weeks earlier this year but lending a blu ray just feels different to me.

One definite thing I've noticed reading this entire thread is, most (please notice the word most) of us are a bunch of anal and selfish people with our Blurays, including myself on the most part. Please don't jump to conclusions or get butt hurt about my statement because there's zero intent nor harm intended towards anyone whatsoever.

We are NOT selfish in all reality, but I'm purley guessing that most of our friends or family who we've lent movies to in the past and don't anymore, have that perception of us. But these people don't get it when they return something that is all jacked up and in their minds, no big deal because.....what....it's $15 or something? We should get over it. Little do they know what most of us are all about with our prize possessions.......to us. That's why we buy blus and not DVD's. We care about quality and each disk means something to most of us. If not, we all wouldn't be reading 90% of the comments saying "no way, never lend them out"

A lot of us have experienced "bad things" when we are generous with our movies, but we've been burned. This may be a bad example, (monetary value can't be compared of course) but, if one of your friends lent you their quad to go 4 wheeling and you brought it back with a scratch on it, don't you think they'd be pissed off? Yeah they would! We take pride in our movies and expect others to do the the same if we so happen to loan them out. We just happen to be into movies while others have their own interests.
I still lend them out, but not to people that bring my quad back with scratches on it.

I used to lend DVD, CDs, and game cartridges out, but I quit doing that about the time I became an adult many years ago. Now, the only person I usually lend a BD to is my dad because I know he'll take care of and return it.

Depends, I mean I have no problem really, but when I know they're only going to watch it once and keep it in good condition then im okay about. And I can be really outspoken so if some ruins it, I'll tell them they need to replace the damaged item, but so far that has happened.

Of course I lend them out. I had a vast DVD collection which I have now sold off and given away, A great library with some hard to find books, and now a decent Blu Ray collection. If I don't lend them out why the hell do I have them? I watch them, and then they go on the shelf. I lend out combos all the time, to friends that don't have Blu players. In fact one of my friends is a little bummed that I got rid of my DVD's because he would borrow like 6 or 7 DVDs at a time, but me and my wife are planning on getting him a Blu player for Christmas. Whats the worst that can happen? It gets ruined. It's just a movie. However if they do get ruined more than once you are off my lending list.

Only lend with my brother, who has an deep appreciation for the format, and who collects also. But even then, I put the disc he wants to borrow in dvd blockbuster rental cases and keep the various packagings... safe... with me...

I only know two other people who actually buy blu rays, the rest of my friends buy DVDs still. It's always those who still buy DVDs who always want to borrow my blu rays to watch on their PS3s. I spend maybe £2-£3 to upgrade from DVD to blu ray on new releases. If you're still buying new releases, why can't you pay that extra few quid to upgrade from DVD to Blu Ray?

I always let people borrow the DVDs if I get a double/triple play because there's little chance of me using the DVD. I have a blu ray player at my apartment and my parents have one at their house so there's little chance of me needing to use the DVDs. Movie nights with friends are always round mine.

When I lend to people in my flat, the only people I lend Blu Rays to, I always put it in one of my disc carrier cases so the case won't get damaged.

Would only lend to someone who is completely aware of how I am. If I borrow something the lender recieves their property back exactly as is it was or at times in even better condition. I expect nothing less from someone I lend my property to. And I will not loan anything to someone with a disregard for their own property.
