Yeah, my co-worker STILL has Insidious and The Woman in Black back when he borrowed them in October. I got to get them back soon.

I think my don't lend anything policy was a result of lending out some CDs and having them come back (cases and discs, and booklets) with nasty old greasy fingerprints all over them. Just not worth the ocd-induced anxiety. (And before that I remember lending out a couple LPs that came back pretty trashed, basically no longer anything I would put on my turntable ever again.)

I let the wife borrow out some duplicate dvds not all that long ago, and as expected, a couple never came back, the others had not been handled well (obviously they'd sat out in the sun somewhere along the line), etc. Pretty much my argument against whenever she wants to try something like that again. (At least they made for some pretty decent trade-ins at best buy.)

Guess since I really don't have any friends any more, not that much of an issue at this point.

Hell no. I hate loaning people stuff and probably never will again.

In the past, whenever I would loan someone a movie or video game, it would either never come back or it would be returned slightly damaged.

If it's a DVD, then maybe... but I will never loan any of my Blu-ray's to anyone. Never!

I probably shouldn't even say this, but some friends had lost or scuffed some dvds so if they asked for anything after that I would just rip a dub to lend them. That way I was only out a quarter if they ****ed it up! I usually used envelopes so as not to get back messed up cases. Some had used them for a writing backboard, leaving indents in the slipcover or keepcase. Think I hated that worst of anything except scuffed discs, but even most scuffs usually wipe off, indents don't go away!

Thankfully no local friends or family have blu yet, but I already decided I won't be lending those out at all. If they're lucky they'll ask for something with a combo pack, in which case I'd probably lend the dvd from one now. I'll keep a notepad to make sure I didn't forget about any outstanding discs cuz I'm still a collector, so breaking up sets will be hard at first.

Great idea on lending Vudu password, too bad I sold or gave away all my digital copies or have an account.

Depends on the friend. I have a friend who I lent DVDs years ago, only to get them back months later with scratches on the desk and the case dinged up. I mentioned it to him and he didn't seem to get it. It's not about valuing plastic discs over people, its about people respecting me enough to return items I loaned them in the same condition they received them. It's one thing if it was an accident but if it was due to carelessness then that speaks volumes. So I do still lend them out but am pretty up front that I expect them back in a timely manner and in the same condition that they get them in.

I do sometimes, but not when people ask. I think that's really rude. I myself would never ask somebody for something that I could just buy or rent myself. In this day and age, it's easier than ever to see a movie or TV show. If they are too lazy to make the slightest effort, or if they don't want to pay for the program, they must not want to see it all that much.

Somebody recently went out of their way to ask me to bring Game of Thrones Season 1 over. I hate when people think they are entitled to borrow my movies just because I have a large collection, especially people who are big into piracy and think I'm a moron for buying movies. Apparently I'm no longer a chump when I have something they want to see.

Depends on the person really.
I would NEVER loan discs to some of my friends while I do to others. But when I do I never give them the original case but use a spare case instead.

Never have, never will. Ever since I was a little kid I hated sharing things because I had a lot of experiences where toys broke while somebody else was playing with them.

I only have one good friend with a blu-ray player (PS3). I'd have no problem loaning him a movie, but we usually just watch ours together whenever we get a new one that the other doesn't already have.
