No.
I've never leant anyone a Blu-ray (and very few DVDs back in the day). I just say it's nothing personal but I don't lend stuff out, they know not to ask now. No one really took offence and to be fair, most of them know they can't be trusted as they don't look after their own stuff properly. |

I have loaned a BD to a friend, and he lost it, but at least he is going to pay me the loss. I have already received the replacement. Still, I won't lend any of my BDs to anyone anymore. It's for the best. |

Here's a story of my own, it's a long one, Just after I finished high school back in 1999 I got into sales as a rep for a short while to gain some experience. Anyway I was a part of a team of about 7 or 8 people, and we would drive out to where we were going to sell each day in a Toyota Tarago. There was a CD player in the Tarago, so we all started bringing in our own cd's for the team to listen to in the car. We all often left our cd's in the car for weeks before taking them home. We had just got a new member in the team the week before, but this particular week I fell sick, and was off for a few days. Anyway when I returned to work, quite a number of my cd's were missing. I asked the team about it, and the new guy come out and said that he had them, he had decided to take the ones he wanted home 2 days day before. I said to him he had no right to take them without asking, and asked for him to bring them all back the next day, but he just kind of laughed it off and didn't seem to care. At this point I wasn't very happy with him, the team had to keep me away from him for entire day cause they were worried that I was going to smack him one. The next day he approached me and handed me a a plastic bag, and said "here are your cd's back", no apology no nothing, and he started to walk away. I straight away looked through the bag and could see that not all of them were there. I asked him come back over to me. I said "where are the rest" and his reply was "Oh, I lent some of them to a few friends but when I asked for them back they said they couldn't find them". I said "mate well you are going to have to pay for the ones that are missing so I can replace them", and he said "I don't have the money right now, you are going to have to wait until I next get paid". When it got to the next pay day he didn't show up to work, which was no surprise, I can't remember the excuse he gave. He did however show up the next day, which I knew he would as the team had all planned to go out to a bar in the city that night for a few drinks, which he hadn't stopped talking about because he was bringing some girl along that he had been trying to get with for ages. I thought instead of asking him for the money I would wait to see if he would do the right thing and come and give it to me throughout the day. As the working day neared it's end, he hadn't said a word about it. That evening on the way to the bar, myself and 4 other guy's from the team were having a conversation about the situation with my cd's. It was then we all decided we were going to do something funny to get him back, and all of a sudden we though of the girl he was bringing to the bar that he was excited about. The 5 of us come up with a plan where over the course of the night we were all going to keeping hitting on this girl, which is what the 5 of us did. All night we were drawing her attention away from him, getting in long conversations with her, buying her drinks, playing pool with her, dancing with her and touching her. She was eating it all up, she was ready to go home with all 5 of us. You should have seen the look on his face, it was hilarious. Finally once he had enough and reached his boiling point, he got up from his chair, walked over to her and said he was going to head off home. She said "ok cool, I'm going to stay though, I'll speak to you whenever". He almost cried because she wasn't leave with him. Then he smacked his hands down on the table and said "that's it", and stormed off. We all pissed ourselves laughing. He didn't come to work the next day. Monday come along, and he didn't turn up for work yet again. That afternoon after the team had driven out to where we were going to sell for the day, we decided to stop off at park to eat lunch. While we were eating, the team leader got a phone call from him, which the team leader put on speaker. He had called up to resign over the phone, and said he had some belongings that he had left in the Tarago that he will need to arrange to pick up. The team leader asked what belongings were his. He said there was a jacket, a tie, and red cd wallet full of his cd's that he left in the glove box. I checked the glove box and saw the red cd wallet, but told him over the speaker that I couldn't see it in there, and said I will have a look around in the car for it. I then grabbed the cd wallet out of the glove box and told one of the guys in the team to go across the creek at the park where we were having our lunch. There was a path to get over the other side. Once this member of the team got to the other side of the creek, we started throwing the cd's back and forth over the creek, playing frisbee with them. All while my team leader was still talking to him on the phone. That's when I said into the speaker of the phone "I think I found your cd's, I think they are the ones we are using to play frisbee with. You said they were in a red cd wallet right?". Then he started swearing over the phone and hung up. We left his cd's there at the park, which were all damage from playing frisbee with. We never saw him again, he never come to collect the rest of his belongings, lol. |

i have only let 1 of my friends borrow blu-rays, but i took off the slipcovers first and hope for the best, he returned them about 3 weeks later, only because i asked him he seen them yet, but i have not and maybe will not let someone else borrow my blu-rays in fear of them not taking care of them, when i rent movies they are all scratched and its because most ppl do not care, but i do and take extremely good care of them, but if i dont let family borrow movies it makes me seem like some kind of douche

It seems if I let someone borrow something it goes missing. In the past I have let people borrow a game or whatever then they end up losing it or even lending it to someone else. Interestingly enough, I have inherited a few things by borrowing them. I asked about returning them but they just said keep it.
I won't be lending out my blu-rays. I could make an exception for some family members since they are good about returning things. |

I'll let a very small group of friends borrow my blurays but I trust them. My wife on the other hand is a very giving person and if a friend of hers that I don't know wants to borrow one and she asks me infront of that person it pins me in a corner and I'll give in which never ends well. Either it takes months to get back or she forgot who she lent it to. Ugh, I want people to see some of these movies, but maybe we need to start a movie night at my home for friends and or family.

I lent my $100 DVD box set of FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON to a friend who had a very corpulent signifcant other. After several weeks I drove over to get it back (another one of those situations where I loaned something to someone with the expectation they'd watch it and return it promptly). Anyway, they handed it to me, with the slip cover snapped. I got home and got some glue to repair the slip cover. I then noticed all the black plastic holders had come loose as well, but that's not the worst...
The plastic disc holders and the DVDs themselves were littered with dried chunks of Pace Picante Sauce. The corpulent one must have been eating chips and salsa while watching the episodes, with the set laid open on their coffee table. The image of "the large one" scarfing chips and salsa and dripping salsa all over my set was...enraging and stomach-churning. Needless to say, did not lend any more DVDs to them again. ![]() Last edited by Ernest Rister; 12-07-2012 at 04:23 PM. |

It depends on the friend. I'll let some borrow that I know I can trust to bring it back, and I don't let others. If someone ever breaks that trust, then I never let them borrow again.
In one instance, when there was an accident, one friend bought me a replacement and couldn't apologize enough. If that happens I won't hold it against the the borrower because he made it right. I realize accidents can happen, but if I know I won't actually lose on the deal, then I'm going to be more forgiving. |

I actually do lend my blurays out to friends and family. I know that the blurays are mine, but I enjoy sharing them with others and then getting to discuss how they liked the movie when they eventually get them back to me. I've never had someone not return a bluray to me, but it has on occasion taken 4-5 months to get a bluray back from someone I've lent it out to. I don't push to get them back. I just sorta know who's going to take longer with a bluray when I lend it to them based on past experience. Right now I've had Prometheus lent out for about the past 2 months to a person and Casino Royale has been lent out for about a month as well to another person. I do take out any codes from the cases as well as the slipcovers before lending them out.
EDIT: Just remembered, I lent out Firefly last night, so right now I have 3 blurays lent out. Last edited by Clippins; 12-07-2012 at 04:55 PM. |

I think it's an old truism about human nature - you just don't respect things that are given to you versus how you feel about something you worked for. No struggle, no pride.

Disc only, and it goes into an old CD case. Back in VHS days, I got a movie back with chocolate stains on the label. One of these incidents was enough for me to learn that others don't value your belongings as much as you do!
