I am not a Blockbuster, if they want to watch a movie they have 2 solutions, go rent it somewhere or go buy it at Wall-mart or Amazon like I do. Let them use their hard earn money and purchase the movie and maybe they will then learn that when you actualy buy something with the money you earn, you want to take care of it, maybe? I do not asked for things, I don't ask people to lend me their stuff, if I need it I buy it or rent it. I expect the same courtesy from others, is that too much to ask?
I meant no disrepect to anyone's opinion, but I honestly can't relate to what you're saying. I seem to be in the minority on this though.

I have a small circle of friends and family who I trust with my discs. Thankfully, no one outside this circle has asked to borrow a BD (actually, no one within, either). That kind of trust does have to be earned, though. I don't ask to borrow anyone's discs - I just wouldn't, because I hold the same standard for anyone as I hold to myself.

Egad, when I was younger, my lent CDs would come back to me scratched up, with no apology or any accountability whatsoever. A few were ruined completely, with unplayable tracks.

More recently, I haven't seen my DVD of Apocolypse Now Redux in about a year. I have mentioned it, but it never seems to re-appear from a workmate who is not really in "the circle of trust" (), but who at one point brought a couple DVDs into work for me to watch out of the blue. Of course, when he asked to borrow ANR, I wasn't going to say no, and here it is, almost a year later...

I guess it's just that we wish that we KNEW that those who we would lend to would be CONSCIENTIOUS of what they are doing. The borrower of anything needs to have a view of getting the borrowed item back to the owner, not trying to keep it. A lot of people have that fact mixed up, and it's disappointing to have to feel like you have to chase after your own belongings. Hence, the trust to lend something must be earned somehow, and not given indiscriminately.

I don't lend money, either. That's reserved for an even smaller circle of people who don't actually need to borrow money, but I would lend if they needed it. It's amazing how many people, even people who barely know you, will ask to borrow money from you. Yeah, I've learned my lesson with lending money on a far less trusting scale in the past, but that's another subject. Time and experience teach a person...

Sorta selfish, but it comes out of experience, and my own personal standard regarding the posessions of others.

i just use empty jewel cases. i know that the bd is scratch resistant so that isnt really that big of an issue, im am more concerned with the condition of the FRAGILE cases....one little drop will crack a corner.

The only time I let some friend borrow a Family Guy DVD, it came back scratched up and beyond its playability. It's been a definitive "NO" since that day when anyone asks to borrow my movies.

Not just that, a friend will replace anything they damage - mine will!
They also know that if *I* damage something - I replace it!

That's what friends do... well, at least my friends do.

you're not. i completely agree with you. i don't get it either how some people can be so protective of something material. that's their right to be that way and i don't begrudge them of it. i'll just never understand placing material objects over people. but hey that's why there's chocolate and vanilla.

Here's the problem with having a circle of friends who you loan to...when a big movie comes out that you have been dying, counting the days even, to get, at least 3 of them are begging to borrow it.

This happened to me with TDK. So I loaned it to a friend and he kept forgetting to return it and I was going crazy trying to get it back. I finally agreed to meet him at a location. Luckily there were no scratches.

So I guess to sum it up, I don't mind loaning most movies, but my personal "cream of the crop" is usually off limits now.

Lent out two blu's to a friend. He just got a player and wanted something to wow him. I hope it works out.. if I get them back with any problems I will have learned my lesson.

Do you loan your blu-rays out to friends?
"Do any of your friend have blu-ray players?" is the real question. I think I know maybe 3 people who have a blu-ray player, but even then I don't see them all that often, nor do I think they know that I have blu-rays. I quite like being the early adopter who can showcase the spectacle of the medium, especially since it hasn't really gone mainstream (here in the UK at least).
Having said that, if anyone wanted to borrow a blu-ray, I'd probably set down some strict rules but would be happy to welcome them, and encourage them, with regards to the format.

In my whole family immeditate and in-laws, We are the only ones that have adopted the Blu format. So borrowing ours (mine ) are way out of the question. No body has a player period to play them. So I am safe. Now when they decide to turn and recoginze that Blu is better. Then it will be a tough decision. (in my heart the answer is HECK NO) BUT we will see when that time comes.

I only let 2 people borrow stuff, no one else, not even family. People do not know how to handle stuff. One of my friends just has the discs of his movies and games stacked on his coffee table and once mine was stacked so i flipped and never let him borrow stuff again. If he wants to watch he can come to my place.
