If someone asks me if they can borrow my precious blu's, I pretend like I'm talking to a rascally dog and I say "No! NO!" before I smack'em in the face with the back of my hand.

To be honest, no one ever asked to borrow my blu's. I'm the only one I know with any.

So lonely...

I'd recommend them to sign up for netflix, and hopefully they'll get the hint of not borrowing one from me.

I'm the only one in my family who has a Blu-ray player.

My friends are also still stuck in dvd land.

So... I am never asked for Blus.

That's funny! Strange coincidence, but I'm glad that all my DVDs are now accounted for. I'm hoping that Apocolypse Now Redux gets a release date soon.

Books, blu ray movies, tools - choose wisely. BDs may only be $15-$20 but its kind of the principle of the thing - getting ripped off sucks whether for a buck for a thousand bucks. At the same time, I don't want to be some miserly dick and never loan anybody anything just because someone once failed to return something I lent to them.

It's all in the choosing of who to loan to. I have a buddy at work who loaned me some of his BBC sitcoms on PAL discs - if I had "lost" them he would have had to go re-order from AmazonUK. I loan him BDs in return (he has a PS 3). Like several other posters mentioned, we both do our loaning in plain jewel cases.

I have three friends that have blu-ray players. One of them isn't responsible enough to return it in mint condition, so I don't loan anything out to him. The second one, his PS3 broke due to his son stuffing objects in the slot. And this other buddy just bought a Samsung bd player; he's trusted but relies on other people so he doesn't have to spend money on movies.

Talking Discriminate

I have one friend who has a blu ray player and we loan stuff to each other. We try to buy movies that the other person doesn't have. Most of the time we watch them together but sometimes we do lend them back and forth. We both are very protective of our blu rays and each others blu rays so we don't have any problems. One time I lent him the first season of thundercats for his son to watch and his son roughed up a little tiny area of the box cover, he gave me back a brand new set even though I said it wasen't necessary. I would have done the same thing for him though. So the point is if you know someone is responsible and will replace your movie if anything happens to it, lend it to them. Otherwise, just say NO.

Very mature friend you have there

I don't lend out anything. Period. I am sick and tired of lending stuff out and then asking people to return them back. People just don't have the god damn courtesy of returning stuff by themselves.

I usually loan out anything that is non-wearable including CDs, DVDs, and BDs.
Not my precious records though because you are wearing them everytime you listen. My friends can go to hell before they get ahold of my records

For my part, it's not the courtesy of returning stuff that was so much the problem, but the condition of the items once they were returned. Everything from books to games and old VHS cases would come back squashed, ripped, bent, and generally damaged. When you understand that I keep everything in like-new condition, that's a pretty big issue. I've loaned out a few DVDs in my time, but since I don't know of anyone that is onto BDs yet, I'm still safe from the ask. Fortunately, I have no problem saying no. There are very few people that I would ever loan anything to, and that's solely based on my past experience.
