I only lend movies out to my cousin and he lives just down the street. He is also a collector of movies and knows how to treat them well. Anyone else I would not lend my movies to. Kind of a sad thought to think that I dont trust my friends enough.

I'm usually cool about lending stuff out to most people and accepting that accidents happen. However, with discs accidents happen often because people treat them like it's VHS or something. So I tend not to lend out optical media.

I lend and borrow BD's and DVD with a couple of friends all the time. Our tastes are a bit different and so we little overlap with our collections. It is one way to be able to watch a lot of things that I do not have the option of renting but I would never buy myself.

Never. Period. lol. The only people that ever touch my movies are my dad and sister, that's about it. Friends? NO. Coworkers always ask me to let them borrow some, because some of them know i buy a lot of blu-rays. I just kinda say sure and never mention it again. I don't mean to sound harsh, but i spend my hard earned money on these things. If they want to see the movie that badly, then they can just go out and rent it or buy it like i did.

Actually it really depends on how close I'm with the person. I told one kid that I don't even like that much to **** off because he asked to borrow Fight Club. Now if it was like my bestie, I'd let him borrow because he would do the same for me.

I stopped loaning my discs when I stopped getting them back or, if I did, got them back scratched to hell and finger-printed like a crime scene. If someone asks, I just say I don't have it or explain the following.

When I decide to sell it off I want it to look like it did when I opened it. Plain and simple. I can reasonably charge what I want and the customer is happy and surprised at the condition of the item. That way the customer knows that what they get from me is nothing short of perfect!!!

Hell one of the nice features of being on Blu-ray is most people don't have a blu-ray player ... yet.

"Oh, could I borrow that movie?" ...

"Do you have a blu-ray player?" ...

"A what? ...

"Sorry you can't watch it then."

Sounds all too familiar.

So yesterday I bought Star Trek. Watched it and attempted to get my mom to watch it as well but I guess it wasn't her thing.. So I go to bed and in the morning I get up and notice a few of my Blu's are scattered all over the place. I started flipping out. She said " I wanted to watch 24 but couldn't figure out how to work it" ...this is not even a day after she got fingerprints on two of my other disks. Ugh..I'm going to have to lock my stuff up. I'm amazed that Star Trek is not smudged or scratched. I keep telling her...you're not supposed to touch the surface of the disk..She nonchalantly tells me.."how else are you supposed to handle them?"...

So ya...I don't lend my Blu's out..

Ya...that's how its been for me for a while now. A good friend of mine got a Blu-ray player...I keep getting nervous about if I'll get a phone call with him asking to borrow some. He drives a Lexus...he can buy/rent his own...

once a blu enters my house, it does not leave.... unless I'm taking it with me to a friends house to watch.

when I first started my collection friends wanted to borrow some movies, and I just flat out said "sorry, I don't lend out blu's, I collect them and want them in pristine condition". Since then, noone has asked to borrow any

May seem dick-ish to others, but I've let my friends borrow my games/movies before, only to get them back with lovely scratches on the disc, case, and sometimes even having the booklet missing.....

You want it, go buy it

I've loaned several of my Disney blu rays to my neighbor (he has two small children). He has always returned them in great shape, so I don't mind lending them to him.

I have lent movies, video games, books, and other things in the past, but am hesitant now after many bad experiences with many different people either:

1. Not returning them
2. Returning them damaged, missing parts, etc.
3. Returning them after 6 months to a year after having to go through major hurdles (constantly reminding them to return, going out of my way to pick up the return, etc.)

I've learned that many people simply don't care about things not their own and won't take care or responsibility for "borrowing" items.

I now only lend stuff on a discretionary basis. One strike and you're out.

i remember the days when no one could borrow any of my blu-rays cause they were still DVD only... those were the days...

i am very hesitant... but i will let close friends borrow them. the trouble is remembering who has what. and if i start writing it down they'll think i'm a free rental store.

EDIT: i just decided that i'll close friends borrow them for ONE WEEK. if i do not have it back after 7 days they can't borrow movies ever again.

sorry... this has been bothering me and when i saw this thread i figured it would be a good time to let it out
