I let one of my friends borrow my blu's sometimes but I lent him my Taking of Pelham 123 back in February and i still haven't gotten it back (i also haven't seen him in about a month and half either). When I do see him it will be the last time I lend out my blu's. At least it was one i got for free around the holidays

I know one person who has a PS3 and some BDs, but he just moved to England, so he is not going to ask me.

None of my friends have a BD player, or a HDTV for that matter, so my family and friends come to my place to enjoy a great film on BD.

Most people are simply too careless, but if I knew he/she was extra careful, I'd probably lend it to him/her, although without much enthusiasm.

(I always take extra care of my stuff, and it pains me how most people treat CDs, so I'd be most worried!)

Only to trusted friends. And it will be a " lend me a blu,I'll lend you a Blu" policy.

This discussion kind of reminds me of my YouTube project from last year and early this year.

I was in the process of making and uploading videos of most of the songs in my CD collection. All of the ones allowed that weren't blocked by WMG and Sony and a few others.

Anyway, my account got banned because one of the cover arts of the albums had some nudity on it. Hey, it was a Black Metal CD and featured a nude female torso wrapped up with barbed wire. Fans of black metal may know the one I'm talking about... YouTube said I was violating the Community Rules. But they always targeted a particular song on this album. But I figured if this video was a violation so was the rest from that album.

Anyway, after I got banned, (which is the relevance of the above anecdote) one of my former subscribers emailed me asking if I could send him the MP3s of one the albums I had uploaded. Well, I replied, "Well, you could always buy the album." His reply was "I can't find the album anywhere" (granted it was a catalog title, debut album actually) But I said, "Did you check Amazon?" and giving him the link to the item. Never got a reply after that. But I also said, "If you don't have an Amazon account, I can't help you and you should just shoot yourself in the face now. " LOL.

I stopped lending out my movies and games in general because I've had too many times where I let someone borrow and then I never get it back. And they don't know where it is or they gave it to someone else.

It totally depends on the friend. I just loaned out Quantum of Solace to a friend of mine and got it back within 2 days and it was still in perfect condition. Some of my friends, however, I would never let borrow some of my movies because I don't trust them.

No, I don't lend out my BDs, or DVDs for that matter.

(I've been a longtime lurker on these forums, but for this topic I had to join!)

I do lend tools, my car, things that I generally don't care that much if get damaged. I still consider myself a nice guy, just don't ask to borrow my movies, or stamp collection, or underwear :-)

But I still feel bad EVERY time I have to tell someone I don't lend my discs. I feel obligated to defend or excuse or explain my stance every time. It's not easy saying no.

Back in junior high, I used to get people on my doorstep who I didn't even know, asking to borrow from my VHS and Beta collection. The word got 'round that I had hundreds of movies. Not wanting to be a bumhole, I lent my movies even to these people. Guess what happened?

I make a distinction between friends and mates. A very few friends may borrow from me on occasion, but even then, things sometimes go wrong. My disc 4 of Star Trek TNG season 4 has been missing for a few years, despite the best intentions of my friend.
Mates, who I see infrequently, never EVER get to borrow anything.

And you know what? As long as I don't lend, I don't ask to borrow anything from people either. Seems only fair to me.

To most people, BDs and DVDs are consumables. I COLLECT movies, and to me the physical appearance of the packaging is just as important as the movie inside. I don't expect the same approach from everyone else, but I do expect that my views are respected. Most people would throw a fit if you borrowed their car and scratched it, I don't.

A friend of mine has a policy:
"If you're not going to watch it tonight, don't borrow it. I didn't buy it to have it laying around your house for months!"

Do you loan your Blu-rays out to friends?
A true friend doesn't ask to borrow a Blu-ray. Just like they wouldn't ask to borrow your girlfriend. So no.

I loan to a few friends I have never had a problem. If I loaned them one and never got it back i wouldn't loan them another. I do the friend policy where when you loan a friend something think of it as a gift and feel lucky if you get it back.

Wow, lots of nice people on this board. If a friend of mine asks me to borrow something I cant say no, at least with something as unimportant as a movie.

Of course theres things I spent a fortune on that I wont lend out, but a movie? No problems with that at all. I dont have a single friend that would steal from me or damage anything I give them, and I always get everything back in the same condition I gave it to them. I dont know what kind of friends you guys have that trash the things you lend to them.

I only lend out to my one good friend who promptly returns it after he's watched it, unlike my other friends who hold my Videogames/DVDs/BDs hostage for months or even years.

I'm with you for the most part on this, and you're very lucky and blessed to have such good friends! I wish I could loan out to everyone who's a friend of mine, and I still do to certain ones, but sadly some people just have no respect for others belongings, whether they're a friend or not. Plus, if they treat their own stuff like junk, can you count on them to treat yours any better? A lot of it has to do with personality type I think...

Talking Blu still not that mainstream

I don't know anyone that has a BD player. My grandmother--other than her blue veins & bruises from falling..is the only blu she knows. She still shows family photos on a slide projector!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not even no bloddy VHS, VHS-C or flip cam! Cell phone? Maybe a button cell batttery for her hearing aide!

When I was younger I used to be nice a sucker. But after years of having games, movies, CD's, tools, a canoe and camping equipment returned in less than optimum shape, if they ever got returned, I just got tired of it. I can count the people I loan things to on one hand... that is missing two fingers.
