I live by this motto: "I don't ask to borrow your stuff, so don't ask to borrow mines." I won't even lend out my PS2 games because people don't respect others property. When someone asks to borrow a Blu Ray disc, I just tell them that I don't loan them out, but Blockbuster does.

This is a hotter topic than I had expected.

Generally I don't like lending stuff out. I'm mainly worried about scratched up disks, but also I do find it annoying to have to ask for the disk back after a month.

Someone asked for 4 at once and my wife lent them out. I think it was a few months before they came back. I found that really annoying.

Actually the ones that I don't mind lending out too much are the previously viewed BlockBuster disks. They're already scrached up so can't get much worse.

I decided against listing all my movies in a database since I figured someone would want me to email them my list of movies. You know, I'm sort of like a free BlockBuster store.

I do borrow stuff from time to time. But when I do, I try to return it within a few days if at all possible.

I had some bad experiences too...! 2 of my Simpsons seasons got back all scratched up and with a disc missing cause ``my little brother has been playing with them, hehe´´ WTF HEHE??? Another season got stolen why my brother had it, and I lost 2 Simpsons seasons to a guy who never gave it back, and who kinda disappeared...! I hate the feeling of looking at a hole in my collection wondering: ``hmmmmm.... wonder if ill get that back??´´ Thats just a bad feeling! !

my sister in law borrowed my season 1 of csi. got it back w/the case broken apart. made her buy me a new one. i told her the same thing i posted above, treat it like your child and if it doesn't come back the way it left, i expect a new one.

don't mess w/my movies, it's the one thing i spend my money on that's not bills.

I don't like to lend period but every once in awhile you get a "can I borrow" and I usually tell them just remember who the owner is after saying that I just change the topic to something completely different and before you know they leave with nothing...I am a happy camper after that...

I share with my friends all the time. We email each other our collection (from this site) and loan all the time. It's actually pretty fun and we're all pretty strict about scratches.

i know a kid, u can go over to his house, take as many movies as u want and keep them for as long as u want.

his collection is never all there @ once. i couldn't handle that. i'd start to get all twitchy just thinking about it.

Blockbuster & Netflix have insurance, we do not. If someone borrows our disks and returns it scratched, it has to come out of our pocket.

same here, I'd probably go mad. I can't bring myself to lend out anything, either whoever borrows it keeps it forever, or it comes back years later trashed. I keep my movies in pristine condition. I will not have it any other way, lol.

then again, no one I know has a Blu-ray player...so I suppose I am lucky

That would drive me "nuts"!!! I guess I'm lucky because I have one friend in the condo below mine that has A BD player , when he borrows A BD he brings it right back just the way it was !! He know's how I am about my BLU'S !!!!!

Yeah im VERY picky when I let people borrow movies. Now my bro has a Blu Ray player so it sucks lending out my stuff. He gets smudges and sometimes scratches on them!

I've started doing the same thing. I'm keeping a check list on paper of who has borrowed what and when they took it AND when they returned it.

I got sick and tired of owning a movie and when I went to go to watch it-it's gone because so and so borrowed it months ago and is too lazy or forgetful to return it. Our best friends borrowed my Indy box set months ago-I think this is going to end up like a prisoner exchange.

The only way I ever lend something is if I get something in return. If they want to rent a ps3 game , I expect the same in return or 2 blu's and vice versa. It's not so much that I don't trust them, I just don't trust my friend to give it back to me in a timely fashion. If i could lend it to them and be assured I would get it back within a few days I would gladly do it.

I've had one of my DVD on loan to one of my best friend for years now. I don't think I'm ever going to get it back...

Funny thing is that (years ago) when i loaned the disc out, i took out the slip case so that he would not damage it due to negligence... and just yesterday, as I was cleaning my shelf, i saw the slip case again and just threw it away. I guess I just gave up any hope of ever seeing that DVD again. !#$^&*%#*)

Another instance is when one of my discs (DVD again) was loaned to my relative (I just couldn't refuse her). She ended up losing the disc and I had to replace it myself when I chanced upon the same title during a sale.

As for my Blu-rays, so far no one has tried to loan it from me, but nevertheless, just to be safe.... the next time someone comes visiting my place....

"GO GO GO ~~ HIDE THE BLUS!!!"

If it's a close friend, I'd rather buy them the blu-ray or game before I lend it out. I've done it before.
