I never lend out a movie unless it is to a family member. They won't let the disc get scratched. I stopped lending out movies years back after someone borrowed a movie from me. They had it for 3 months and the dvd was scratched to high heaven.

Only my mother and my young brother can borrow BD from me, and when they do so, part of them is scared about holding one of my BD in their hands! They both use extreme precaution because they know me!
Once, my co-worker and me were talking about the Walking Dead tv-series, and another (he had not saw the show) joined the conversation. My co-worker just said to him: "What? You did not saw that?! Loan it from Pat (me) and you'll love that series!" I said nothing, but my face was clearly saying: "Hell no, I'm not gonna do that!!!" In the past, I loaned books, cds and DVDs to others... Never again! ![]() |

A lot of people don't know that a disc can be handled by the edges only. If you loan to someone for the first time, you open the case, get it out by the edges and look at the data surface for scratches & fingerprints. Usually, they're surprised that you can get it out that way and want you to show them again how you did it!

I'll pretty much lend them out to whoever wants them, same with my games. I've never really had any problems getting them back in good shape.
One of my friends though I don't lend to very often. I swear even back with CDs I'd get them back and they looked like he took a sandblaster to them. |

the few times I've been asked it was very simple: 'sure, but I promised a friend at work that they could see it first..' Most people forget after that and if they ask again just tell them it hasn't been returned yet.
I've used it twice once for a limited edition copy of a movie that there was no way it was leaving my hands and another for a game. The only other time someone cornered me and was sort of bullying me to get a dvd that was rare I told them it was rare and very hard to replace, so unless they wanted to leave a $200 deposit the answer was no. I had a feeling they knew what it was and they were trying to get a rare set for themselves. They moved like 2 months later I would never have seen it again. |

I'll lend out a DVD to a close relative but not the premium stuff - too many horror stories. Everything from DVDs sitting around WITHOUT THE CASES! collecting dust to scratches to food grease stains on the discs, you name it. You want to watch something that bad, buy your own Blu-ray player.

I lost a friend because I wouldn't lend him any movies. I used to lend him several video games, but then it took him forever to give them back to me. And when I got them back, some of the games were damaged. A couple of years later, he started asking me to lend him some movies. I told him no because of what happened during the time he lent me the games. He was like, "Ohhh, that was long time ago. I'll be careful this time!" But he lost his trust, so I said, no. Ever since then we grew apart and just lost the friendship.
So, take my advice, if you want friends or want to keep your current friends, you need to lend them your BDs if they ask! Otherwise, you risk losing them. Happened to me. ![]() |

No only to family members. It really gets me when you lend something to someone and they have it for weeks and you being the one who lent it have to ask for it back. If someone lent me something it is only but right to return it right away without having the owner who lent it to you ask for it. I think it's rude and me being the owner will never lend another thing whatsoever in the future.
