Life's too short not to share. I am happy to loan my blus to friends, family members and co-workers. Many times I will even offer to loan, especially if it's a TV series someone hasn't seen. I just got my 2nd season of Walking Dead back from a co-worker who in turn let her daughter borrow it (with my permission, of course).

Really, what is the worst thing that can happen? In this age of social networking, it is extremely easy to text or facebook someone a casual reminder of, "Hey, have you watched that movie I loaned you yet"? And if they lose it or ruin it, most people who are close to you will have the decency to pay for a new one. If they don't, then you know they aren't a very good friend and can't trust to loan to them again. In that case, you go out and buy yourself a new copy.

I also remove the slipcovers from them, though....and keep those on my shelf not just because of my raging OCD, but also because it reminds me that that particular movie/TV show is loaned out.

No, I don't typically lend them out. I am too paranoid. BUT I have lent a movie or two to one friend and to my parents. My dad is pretty particular as well. My wife does not respect them in the same way that I do, which very much frustrates me. I'll see my pristine CDs or Blu-ray discs face down stacked on top of the case... Or in a big pile.

NO! Been burned too many times on loaning movies to friends and they "forget" they borrowed them and insist it's theirs OR I've gotten the "I loaned it out to another friend and he lost it" line of nonsense. Not all of my friends have done this, but enough have to ruin it for everybody else.

I only loan out the DVD copy if the movie came in a combo pack because if it doesn't come back, it's no loss to me. I still expect it back though.

My current friends know all of this by now so they don't even ask anymore.

My wife is respectful and allows me to put the disc in the player unless I am not home and then of course I trust her. That's about the extent of my trust. LOL

I created a spreadsheet that i mark the date I lent it out and to who. And I only lend to my parents and to a really good friend of mine who collects as well. The in-laws and brother in-laws aren't even allowed in the same room as my collection, they look a movie and the case breaks and somehow a scratch appears.

I keep my collection in my bedroom and I do not loan any of them. I probably lost over 100 DVDs to friends/family. Most "forget" to return the movie . I made it clear to my wife from day one, no lending...period.

I think once, we normally loan the dvds though, because we don't know that many people with players (that actually use them)

It would depend on the person and the BD for me to loan it out, if it was a Digipak or Steelbook™ it wouldn't go anywhere! I could live with an Amaray going to a hermetically-sealed household. Just.

I do borrow stuff from a friend though but I know it will be looked after like one of my own.

I did lend VHS tapes out quite a bit but I've lost a few, worse case: the lender put tape of the record tab and recorded over Ferris Bueller's Day Off. They couldn't have given a toss either.

Yes, I lend them. But only the disc, which I put in a special clear plastic case, and then I can keep the movie's case on my shelf. I also note all people who borrow from me. I have lent out many discs many times, and never lost one.

No, only the DVD from a triple play if that. I hate it when they come back damaged.
