That's what friends do.

I have another friend, he just sent me a *brand new* Linksys router with DD-WRT firmware on it.
WRT54G V8
No real reason, he said because I have helped him with computer issues his and other people's he was working on.

Cool, huh?

Here's a kicker - I have never actually met these guys before.
Friends from online sites - years gone by. TechTV...

I'm in Cali, friend I sent the discs to is in NC... friend that sent me the router, NY.

A single Blu-ray disc? And it was just "borrowed"? Like, you're going to get it back?
Don't trip dude!
If he is any kind of friend, he'll replace it if it gets damaged.
thank you!!!

I lend out my BDs all the time. Doing so makes me feel like I'm getting more value out of them.

None of my friend have BD anyway so I am pretty safe, but I used to hate loaning movies out only to get them back thrashed.

Out of my collection they wanted to watch The Incredible Hulk. We watched it, they enjoyed it, they complimented my setup and collection. They said "Oh I wouldn't mind watching Ironman." I blurted "When you watch it, be sure to watch all the way to the final credits." Then the inevitable, they set up the trap for me and I walked right into it, "Can we borrow Ironman?"

I hesitated then said, "yeeeeah surrrrreee." I didn't want to, but I lent it anyway. =(

Part of the joy of BD is 99% of my friends are DVD only so nobody can borrow my movies. Am I alone here?

It's a bad feeling. Like them asking, "hey, can I touch your wife?" or, "hey, can I borrow your wife?"

lol.

You know you have to say "No," but you end up lending her anyways. though you don't want to.

Haha gotta love The Ringer.

I am also the same with my group of friends, I'm the first to conform to BD. I've already had one ask to borrow The Dark Knight and I'm like, "Ooooh...sorry its in bluray." (as I laugh to myself) I like it.

Default Don't Lend

I never lend books or movies. I just give them away, it seems. Lending it is the same as giving it away 90% of the time. So, just give it away.

If it is something I'll probably never read or watch again, I will lend it and expect that it will never return. If it does find its way home, then bonus. If not who cares.

I have a Blockbuster card, everyone should have one and use it. Don't borrow my discs, borrow Blockbuster's

Kinda funny to see this topic now. A buddy/co-worker just got a PS3 a few weeks ago. Of course since I've told him about how kick ass blu's and some games are, I got the same question; "can I borrow some stuff." So I lent a few games I never play anyway and some blu's to him. Games I'm not to concerned about so long as I get them back sometime. But the 3 blu's, I'm starting to get impatient. Been 2 weeks and I'm about to ask where the puck are those movies. Even though I probably won't watch them anytime soon the collection on the rack just seems to be 'naked' without them.

My movies are probably one of the few personal items I do NOT give out...even if they ask, I respond with a friendly "no."

There is no way in hell I would let someone borrow one that I paid ALOT for like a steelbook or import.

If it was a domestic release that I could replace easily then yes.

Has anyone ever had an issue of people lending stuff to others that they had borrowed from you?

I try not to lend stuff out, and if I do, I always try to have (like some other poster well put it earlier) some collateral material in case; I'll always try to ask if that person can lend me something in return and then we both exchange again at some point.

Since I've started going blu, and like many others, I've gotten less anal about DVDs, although I make sure to always get them back, even though some get lost at some point. I should really write up a list of who has what...

I too hate loaning out BD's from my collection for the same reasons many of you are writing about: sometiimes they don't come back at all and sometimes when they come back, they are not in the condition as they left. The other issue is if I loan out BD's then I CAN"T WATCH THEM!!!

I have tried using the Netflix idea too.

I have one friend who asks to borrow my BD's. I finally gave in but I made my friend agree to a deadline to return the movie. I will only loan one at a time and I always make it a big deal so that it hopefully stops.

I never ask to borrow BD's from friends. I take my own advice which is to rent from Netflix. But I do purchase a lot of BD's and so my collection is in pretty shape.

Finally, I also remind friends of good sales in hopes they buy and stop asking to borrow my BD's.

Got one for you guys, my job has movie nite(as an activity for the men that live there)they didn't have a video card and was renting from Wegmans,I have a collection of dvds about 500-700 so I offered them to use mine 1per wk,Now once in a while I forget to take them home, sometime my co-workers ask to borrow them 1 guy doesnt bring them back until maybe 2-3 wks later, now I dont remember what I lent him, when they do come back he says "I brought some movies for the guys to watch" I say aren't these mine?He says "No those are mine!" So I go check my collection and of course mine aren't in there because those are mine! On the BD note got about 100 of those I let my boss use those the only problem with that is if you send them with that extra cover you will NEVER see that again, but no scratches.
