I am so happy I found this subject on here. I have a few people that harass me about borrowing my movies. I have been told I'm stingy and selfish quite a few times. It does make me feel bad but this is my hobby and my movies are a part of me. I used to lend them out but they went missing or came back sticky and scratched. I've lost slipcovers and the final straw was when I lent Goodfellas out and they had it for about 2 months. I had to start asking for it back. When I finally got it back 6 months later the case was water logged. I was told they put it in their car, forgot about it and then one day it fell out in a mud puddle. They cleaned it off and dried it out though....lol I was furious!! I stead of them offering to replace it for me, they said the case was just ruint but the movie would probably still play. That was it for me . I have one friend now that wants my entire Star Wars bluray set....not happening.

Yes I do, but only to people I can trust and if the discs aren't special editions or OOP. If they have non-standard packaging I just lend out the discs in blank cases.

I like lending out films to friends because I like to discuss them over drinks or coffee etc when I catch up with them.

Having said that, I don't lend out films as often now as I did during the dvd era because most people I know aren't interested in physical media.

Nope. I do not loan (NEVER), or borrow movies (never ask for it - it happens sometimes, but only when somebody insists ).

Depends on who but generally no. I rather give my friends movies then lend them mine, I've never been big on the idea of sharing my stuff... rather buy it for then instead.

I let my younger brother access my collection while I'm at college and, since he knows full well how to take care of them (as does the rest of my family), that's not a real problem for me. Only one friend outside of my family I let borrow films of mine, although I'm willing to let others if the occasion arises. My friends whom I talk movies with know the value I place in my physical releases, one even mailed them back in a well padded box when I couldn't pick them up and they were exactly as I left them.

After losing 100s of DVDs which were loaned to family and friends, I have ZERO tolerance for any requests for "borrowing" my movies...meaning I do not lend movies anymore. People know better than to ask at this point .

All the time but just like a few others have said its getting fewer an fewer with all the streaming options available now.

Never had one disc not returned....cause you know......i know where you live.....and my favorite movie is John Wick....so don't force me come out of retirement.

Cheers,
CC-

Never. Family members ask but the answer is always no. They look surprised at that.

The same rule applies to my books. I hate bent corners and cracked spines.

Nah. If a friend or family member wants to watch something that I own, then they are welcome to come to my place to watch it with me.

I've also learned from my dvd days.
I have been asked, but the answer is rarely yes.
I hate to be a dick, but these discs usually aren't cheap.

I'm right there with ya!! Not only have I had items not come back, but I've had them come back with demolished cases. It amazes me how some people will treat items that we are generous enough to loan them.

My blu collection is well over 3,000+. I may be selfish, but they do not leave my home. I've been known to burn a copy for someone to borrow, but the originals don't go out.

Agreed, my missus is always trying to lend my movies out and Its always meant with a no. Especially since I don't know half of her friends and probably wouldn't see them in one piece again!

I guess the reason why nobody in my family have asked to borrow any of my movies is because:

1. I'm the only one who have a blu-ray player and

2. Nobody in my family watches movies very often (and not a movie buff) like I am.

Absolutely not, because you feel like you have to beg for your stuff back after a while instead of them giving it back in timely fashion. And when you get it back, at least for me, you can tell it wasn't taken care of.

I used to not. Now that 4k is coming out I really don't care about many of mine anymore as much as I used to. I also stopped buying them and maybe get 2 a month instead of the 3-5 a week. Just two at a time though and I send myself an email so I remember who has it.

At one time I did loan out, but when they were returned with finger prints all over the discs, that stopped real quick. Now I only loan out to one person I trust to handle with care. Its amazing how little care people take when the stuff is not theirs.

I had the same experience during the original Nintendo days. So, I never loaned out any movies from the start.

My wife's older brother probably took almost 100 DVDs...rare stuff, valuable discs. Well he was taking a while to return them so I asked him for the movies. "Did I not return them?" "Did my wife not return them?".
Answer is NO. Apparently, him and his wife loaned my movies to people from their bible study group...my stuff was never returned.

Similar cases with my wife's best friend, and some of her other brothers and sisters (she has 8 siblings)...so yeah, when I purchased my first Blu. I told her DON'T EVEN THINK about lending any of my movies...I don't even want to hear ANYONE even asking me for a movie...

Its been 9 years and nobody has asked to "borrow" a Blu-ray. As you can see my collection shelf is by the entrance to my house...nobody takes, nobody looks, nobody asks about my movies .
