I will only lend my Blu-rays to one guy, another Blu-ray adopter, and that's only because I know he takes extra good care of his Blus. I wouldn't ever let anybody else borrow my Blus, not even family.

no one bothers to borrow any of my blu-rays, but i would have no problem lending them out. it's just a movie.

so i got my copy of ironman back today. happy to say the bd is in good condition (fingerprints but i'll get over that)

but my case is a little worn. i tossed the slip-cover, but the insert is wrinkled all to hell, looks like it got wet, maybe sat in a backpack for a while during this snow-storm here in victoria. it's annoying, may just do a custom case for ironman. not like i sit there looking at the cover for days, but if someone yanks it out and looks at it, they're gonna be like "whoa, ghetto copy of ironman bro."

lesson learned, NEVER lending a BD ever again

At least you got it back. With BD players flying off the shelves right now, there are going to be many more potential borrowers out there.

I love sharing my passion for movies with friends. If the cost of that is a scratch or a lost disc once in a while, it's not the end of the world. Blu-rays aren't irreplacable.

When some of my friends starting getting PS3's I was very keen to lend out some blu-rays, but they have had them for months so I do not bother now. They also come back in rubbish condition - why do people do that?

Cheers

i have no idea why people do that! i have a friend's copy of Lost Season 1 and I'm paranoid about damaging the case and dvds.

Out of my collection they wanted to watch The Incredible Hulk. We watched it, they enjoyed it, they complimented my setup and collection. They said "Oh I wouldn't mind watching Ironman." I blurted "When you watch it, be sure to watch all the way to the final credits." Then the inevitable, they set up the trap for me and I walked right into it, "Can we borrow Ironman?"

I hesitated then said, "yeeeeah surrrrreee." I didn't want to, but I lent it anyway. =(

Part of the joy of BD is 99% of my friends are DVD only so nobody can borrow my movies. Am I alone here?
LOL, yes that has happened to me as well, all I can say to ya now is get ready to lend a few more

Yes, and I find that disrespectful + it came back scuffed up

But there are friends and there are friends, and I will lend to a "true" friend.

yeh seriously don't do it in the first place because what happens next time when they ask you to borrow something else? what will be your excuse not to let them borrow something when you let them borrow the first time.

I had the same issue as the OP with one of my friends who is more a ps3 player than a bd adopter....i gave him this look like "are you kidding me?" He knew not to ask again....I wouldn't mind lending as he has no children and i know he takes care of his games, but i know i would be feeling uneasy as long as it wouldn't be on my shelves...

I've had too many bad experiences with lending things out. Things either never get returned or they are damaged when they do get returned. I lent my own brother the 1st season of Heroes on DVD to get caught up in time for season 2. He had it for weeks and never watched a single episode. When people offer to lend me a movie (usually because I haven't seen it and they think I should) I typically decline because I feel obligated to watch it immediately and return it to them the next day if possible. I don't like shoehorning a movie in like that, I prefer to have plenty of time to watch at my leisure.

That's odd, I'm usualy the one telling people they have to borrow a movie because they haven't seen it yet.

Like I make my friend borrow Dark City and The Fall. No one seems to know much about The Fall.

Maybe it's time to re-evaluate your friends.
Agreed. WTF kind of social circle are you in. Are these people that you meet for the first time at a party?

i lend people my movies and i say to them you break you buy and if you're going to not give it back to me that also qualifies as you buying it. because i feel if they break it, lose it, or keep saying oh i forgot it then they have to pay me the money i spent previously buying it.

Yeah, me too. I guess I like to share. Besides, it's only a movie...worst thing that could happen is you're out what, 20 bucks?
If I went over to a friend's house and saw a blu-ray that I wanted to watch and asked if I could borrow it and they gave me some of the answers you guys gave, I'd be like, damn, this guy's stingy.
