I used to be averse to OLED until I saw the A90J. Prior to that I was a solid fan of LCD’s (and plasma’s for 2k content), not even the pretty excellent Panasonic sets changed my mind. The A90J made me a believer in OLED, and is still the best tv on the market I’d say.

^ as described on the last page and experienced by others (e.g. on reddit), depends on the content one watches

Anyway, location prologue -

I think most 2021 Sony TVs have a built in Nextgen TV tuner

P.S.
The more you know…Sony defaults to a NextGen TV simulcast automatically. One doesn’t need to make a selection between 1.0 or 3.0. The TV displays the superior free OTA signal. Viewers can force a 1.0 signal by suppressing the ATSC 3.0 simulcast in the “show/hide” settings.

So happy to see NextGen ATSC 3.0 TV to come to NYC and that brings this new premium OTA service to 50% or the US population!

Here's the link to WNET's press release.

I think the industry should start calling MicroLED "prosumer". Once you pay more for the tech than studios do for the monitors they use for grading the content itself, you've signaled you are for rich types, the millionaire class.

Nothing against millionaires inherently. But products only they can afford should not be at CES and other trade shows and be talked about in the home video consumer space.

The fact we've been told for years MicroLED is the successor to OLED was a vaporware narrative. Unless we're stretching the timeline to 10 or 15 years. Then maybe it could be with prices coming down. But, still, probably not.

$100,000 for a TV isn't a millionaire product. Lots of cars and trucks have a $100,000 price and everyday people buy them. You definitely don't have to be a millionaire to own either.

CES is always about the future.

MicroLED is the replacement for OLED. The fact that many thought it would happen in a handful of years - well that's their mistake.

I thought microLED was supposed to replace regular LCD and compete with OLED, not replace it. Especially since it seems OLED is improving too with QD OLED.

MicroLED is the replacement for both LCD and OLED. OLED can never be better than MicroLED because it uses way more power. That's the big difference in the technologies.

MicroLED is currently being used in sound stages all over the world for movie and TV production. Why bother to make a small profit on a consumer model when you can make a huge profit on a commercial model. Samsung has no motivation to lower their prices. Not when their product is in such demand.

I didn't realize that microLED used less power than OLED. I had thought the main selling point of it was lack of burn-in.

I would put down $100K today on a true microLED TV if the following is met:

1.) TV is built by anyone other than Samsung.
2.) TV comes with a third party certificate showing that the LED’s used have a higher CRI than OLED based TV’s.

Sony is the only other manufacturer of MicroLed (they call it Crystal LED) and they have zero interest in selling to the general public.

Can you name ANY TV sold today by any manufacturer that comes with a third party certificate denoting anything about the TV's performance?

I’m not the general public. I’ll purchase for professional work. And I don’t care what TV’s sold today have or don’t have, for $100K, they better shit one out.

Well, it's a moot point because Sony won't sell you one, so you are shit out of luck

The LG 88” 8K was $30k. With the 97” you lose half the K’s but gain 9” (and who doesn’t like to gain an inch or two, except around your waist) so with some extrapolation and carrying the 1…. I’m guessing the 97” will be $19,999. Put it in the books.
