Correct me if I am wrong, but discs are still a lot cheaper to make.

Otherwise SD cards seem like a better fit.

My thought is if this method was used, you could download the movie and then transfer to SD, flash drive or USB connected disk drive/ solid state drive. Or a NAS (home network)

You would have the option to move the movie file to a less accessed drive and put a different movie in the more easily accessed drive, as you cycle thru movie watching.

If they were to sell the movie on flash memory at retail, how would they display it in store??

Why, put it in a (bluray) case and stick a security tag/device in it.
No space saving on our shelves.

SD cards seem too fragile for long term storage of 100 GB or more per movie.
plus USB is found everywhere, not so SD or microSD

Who cares how to display it in Store, stores are obsolete anyway.

Any news of the Disney live action version of Beauty and the Beast if the DCP's are 4K?

According to IMDB it's a 2K DI. I hope that's wrong though.

Stefan Sonnenfeld was the colorist. If someone with Social Media can ask him, that would be nice.
But I think it will be 2K. Some Disney Movie trailers were in 4K and were also 4K projects. Not this one.

Here in the Netherlands we have a Dolby Cinema 3D release only.

Are there any news/rumours whether Prometheus and/or some of the previous Alien films getting will be getting UHD releases to coincide with the release of Alien Covenant?
I mean it would seem like a missed opportunity if they didn't at least release Promotheus on UHD.

Also, I'm surprised there is no UHD release of Peter Jackson's King Kong to cash in on the Kong: Skull Island hype.

I would gladly take Alien and Aliens in 4k 12 bit Dolby Vision with new Dolby Atmos mixes. The rest of them... not so much.

No, there is no word yet on tie-in's from Fox.

Universal would probably take the old 8 bit, Rec. 709 Blu-ray master of Kong and upscale that like they did with Bourne Identity, so be careful what you wish for there.

Nah. Jackson's Kong was finished on a 2K DI, 10-bit P3 at the minimum, so at least there's potential for expanded colour and range. But there was no such "digital negative" for Bourne Identity, it having a photochemical finish, so instead of doing a new film transfer they simply upscaled the next best digital record that they had. You only have to look at Supremacy on UHD to see just what a difference going from the DI makes.

Who the f--k knows what Universal would do or not. They're completely unreliable.

That said, yes, I would take the cinema 2k DI if that's their source. The other Bourne films did look a little better than the crap job on Identity.

IF the DI is there then they appear to be using them. I may hate the UHD colour grade of Bourne Legacy but there's clearly far more dynamic range there than the BD, you wouldn't get that if that you just repurposed the BD master.

This doesn't bode well for the first two Mummies, sure. I'll join in with the Universal bashing all day long when/if they end up being upconverts of creaky old HD telecines, but for now I'm not gonna assume that every little thing they do is tragic. Well, not on UHD anyway...

Had not heard about this 'til now.
It's on my radar now. Looks cool and edgy.

New Malick is made to be divisive, but I've been seeing both extremely positive and extremely negative reviews. I'm a huge Malick fan so it sounds perfect to me.
