There are a lot of inaccuracies in that piece but, editorials concerning home entertainment media isn’t Nikki’s forte anyway.

Oh, I have a tough riddle for Penton as well:

- from which popular American television show is my username borrowed? It aired in.... oh, wait a minute. Nevermind!
Twin Peaks (the show always creeped me out but, I loved the falls), and if paidgeek is reading this post, he is probably rolling on the floor laughing (inside insider joke) by now.

From the major Hollywood studio perspective?
It’s the later.
They will eventually migrate to wherever there is a marketplace for their content but, packaged media for high definition movies will be the primary vehicle for content providers for years.

I am hoping that there is still another generation optical disc technology that becomes feasible such as near field optical recording, various multi-layer schemes and holography that could bring things like wide color gamut to our home theaters before high-def digital downloads ever become mainstream. You may want to google a guy by the name of Masud Mansuripur from the University of Arizona.

Somebody should post a link to the John Legend Blu-ray for a commercial advertisement.

Penton-

Is there some sort of contractual thing that's behind the strange post-HD DVD response by Toshiba and P/DW? It seems that some of Toshiba's comments are closely linked to what Microsoft said in their 'we don't care' speech, and all P/DW has said is some Xbox Live Europe video marketplace thing. Just seems weird that Universal would jump suddenly yet Tosh and P/DW are in a grey zone... could this be something stemming from the infamous $150m P/DW buyout?

Considering the maids you roll with, I'd consider a paycut is you need a busboy, cook, bouncer, photographer, dj, manager, in bar legal assisting or something

Penton,

Does HD-DVD PRG still exist? Any clue when it will be disbanded?

would you agree that inthe amount of time it will take for there to be an infrastructure in place that allows digital downloads that surpass the blu experience, blu ray can enjoy a comparable lifespan to dvd? and hopefully enough time for another physical medium also.

Its nice to think about instant access to hi ress lossless audio and video, but based on my experience trying to stream a 1080p quicktime trailer over my high speed cable, we've a whiles to go.

Hey Penton,

What is the deal with Paramount. I would have thought that they would have flipped quite a bit sooner than Universal.

Plus they appear to keep giving press releases for HD DVD movies (sweeny todd and there will be blood).

If you can't answer, I understand.

It seems strange that they are announceing "today" titles for HD-DVD and not a word on Blu Ray.

Talking The 64 Thousand Dollar Question

So Pentonini, we have seen you do some great tricks, you pulled bugs bunny out of HD DVD's hat. Guessed the consumer's format correctly at Best But. Made HD DVD disappear from Walmart and netflix. This has been a truly entertaining show. The only trick left is to will saw the DVD market in half and dye it blu.

So please tell, how will you pull this off?

You’re lucky if you get a full sentence when they communicate online.

With *working* V.P.’s it’s generally several sentences.
“Directors” or managers, I’ll get a complete paragraph.
So in Paramount's statement, Brad Grey will get just one sentence, Alan Bell or some other VP will get a couple sentences but Spielberg and Bay will get entire paragraphs. Good to know

Well I'd like to shamelessly promote myself and say I should edit all your House of Blu's visual media promotional material...

They were announced to retail last week, so technically they aren't new announcments.

Two-pronged attack……………….

1. Encourage all those consumer electronic companies that didn’t buy into a dead format (um, that would be all but Toshiba, I guess) to sell as many Hi-Def TV’s to consumers as soon as possible to create a real infrastructure for high definition movies.

2. Planned obsolescence of DVD.
^ I will not elaborate, so don’t ask.
