Here’s a tidbit of behind the scenes action that no “analysts” I ever heard of reported or rumored. If WB had not declared Blu-ray exclusivity prior to or during CES and sat on their hands any longer, at least one major retailer was positioned to publicly declare Blu-ray exclusivity shortly after CES to start the domino effect to end the format war as soon as possible.

Funny man.
I can be funny too.

If you’re asking for the specific name, it was Al and Ed’s Stereo.

O.K. people what was significant about today in Hollywood ? ………other than it being May Day and me having a soccer hangover.

Hint………….
Everyone wants him.
Very, very few can afford him.
I think he must talk to Tarantino about digital cameras too much.
Today marks the first day you can have a formal meeting with him…….along with your attorneys and bean counters.

I work for a Wal Mart and believe it or not we STILL have an A2 player for sale at $149. It's been there, I kid you not for more than 7-8 months! I think it was a return too, as the box is a little beat up.

This is true. There was one chomping at the bit, and a few behind them waiting to join the dominos
Said retailer had put Toshiba on notice that they'd better have a damn good Christmas, and they had...failed to put it bluntly

You'd do well to read this

Just got off the plane, Skymall has the a3 HD DVD player for $150. Catalog dated late spring. Guess they didn't get the memo.

Heck, for his last production he shot with a Genesis.

I’m all for film but, his feelings/biases are a tad extreme for me.

The person in question should be easy to guess if you concentrate on the “Very, very few can afford him” hint.

Check out the once upon a time in Mexico DVD, there's a 30min clip of him giving a talk at Sony about shooting it digital.

Lucas had him up to the ranch and made him a convert.

He's got a huge digital production chain, so it plugs right in. Don't forget, the man literally makes movies out of his (ex) garage

Make sure you make the puerco pibil recipe he details on there too, it's super tasty

I don't get the last one (per se), but I'm going to guess Steven Spielberg (due to the aversion to digital cinema)?

You guess right.

The last clue was the best way I could word it (given a hangover) without giving away the answer outright.
DreamWorks as of May 1, is now allowed to negotiate with any studio it desires. The question is… does it make more financial sense for Steven S. to remain with Paramount or hop to somebody like Uni. when the time avails itself.

I’m just wondering if this thread will ever die off or just end up being a sticky for posterity?

Hello Penton,

Uni announced DTS-HD MA for their Blu-ray releases. I read somewhere that Steven Spielberg prefers DTS-HD MA. Could Uni's decision to utilize DTS-HD MA play into some sort of strategy to entice Spielberg back to Uni?

And didn't he shoot Josh Brolins audition tape for No Country on that same Genesis? Classic.

It makes sense now after I know what it is... and given Maxpower1987's comments yesterday about Universal's adoption of DTS-HD MA and DreamWorks, I should have figured it out but I figured he was referring to the same rumors we've heard for months now...

Personally, I'd like to see DreamWorks back at Universal, but my thinking has nothing to do with financial reasons and more about how Universal just seems like a better fit than Paramount considering the amount of films Steven Spielberg has with Universal (and certain comments people from Paramount has made).

I read his day-to-day operation offices are still located on the Universal lot. I would not be shocked if he returns "home".
