Yes, it takes sales reps at Best Buy ten seconds to educate the public
how to use the pan and scan button. Of course it is default. You expect
a remote button to go from full screen to widescreen. Technically impossible
to add video data that is not there I would think. Everbody is happy.

The number of people who prefer P&S, AND are willing to/have the money to invest in a common height system is astoundingly small, and due to the cost of the optics/projector/processor is likely to always remain so.
Of course stating the frigging obvious, but that hasn't anything to do with
the fact that even the least expensive televisions have a pan and scan feature.
Black bars on a projector setup is of little concern especially when viewed in a
recommended dark room. The point is that there was no "win." Only an alternative
that satisfies both. Whatever the budget from 20" to 144" systems.

Exactly. I agree completely. Plus the fact that Studios only have to author
one disc. Retailers only have to stock one disc also.

Penton-

I'm shifting this question over here from the Patton thread. It was kind of off-topic for there anyway. Look forward to your response!

I will say though, that I am familiar with the DI which was done at EFILM (Deluxe) as well as the Blu-ray encoding/authoring done inhouse at the studio of record.

Sorry for the confusion. I am a huge fan of this movie but never got to see it in theaters as my wife was mucho pregnant when it came out.

I'm going to hazard a guess that it's had some DNR treatment but that it still came through with a great picture and light grain intact.

I look forward to seeing your official response on the matter. I love reading things like this I never get to see firsthand.

The original captured footage was grainy.
Despite the fact that digital grain reduction techniques (Imagica) were purposely employed during the production of the digital intermediate (per the Director), the theatrical presentation (at quality venues) was sharp and nearly grainless.

The HD master went through compression for the Blu-ray product just fine.
The end result, I believe is very good looking Blu-ray movie despite the use of grain reducing techniques at the DI stage of the process.

I haven’t read any online reviews of the Blu-ray product.

I can’t take any more questions as I’ve got a lot to do this a.m. before heading out for Vegas.

Later.

Hey Penton, a while ago you said that Sony had 100% of the intellectual property rights for BD......does this include both games AND players? I've read articles saying differently, get back to me later if you can. mucho thanks.

Penton wouldn't say that. Blu-ray's copyright pool is shared by dozens of companies, many of whom have their IP in the product

While Sony may own the physical disc structure segment of it, Panasonic has more patents in the pool than anyone

Given this fact, I can't help but laugh to myself when so many HD DVD fanboys during the format war at AVS claimed Panasonic would soon release an HD DVD player.

I truly do not understand how a bunch of adults can get so excited about watching other people eat oranges.
