Come to think of it, in the vast majority of trailers, the VFX work also isn't completely finished.

Well, remember back in the early days of Blu when people were comparing the (first BD50) final product of Click to the trailer, which they felt was sharper and had better color.

People should not make erroneous conclusions that “trailers” are simply cut-downs from the final Cinematographic process in which the film’s creators have provided their input and finished their product to flow as a 2 hour feature film rather than an independent one minute mini-DI, which trailers, in many cases, essentially are.
Sometimes they also use alternate takes (Star Trek First Contact comes to mind), or even include deleted scenes (Real Genius, the balloon chair).

Speaking of which Penton , I know there's a sequel in the works at Sony in some capacity and that Val Kilmer is totally on board. Maybe Amir can play one of the student beauticians this time around, since he seems so obcessed with hairdressing. Who wouldn't pay money to see that? :P

1. They are dissuading some of their members who happen to pass by and read some of the hyped and inaccurate observations in their “PQ issue” threads from purchasing or even renting some fabulous Blu-ray titles.

2. Those that do in fact still rent or buy some of the Blu-ray movies that the screenshot scientists take issue with, still can’t totally enjoy their home media because they have been *pre-conditioned* that something is wrong with the movie so, they end up being unfulfilled in their home theater experience.

Speaking as a film enthusiast, that’s the true shame in what they are doing in the end.
I've long since given up on that site.

What are they suggesting people do instead? Watch the DVD or HD-lite?

Gary, to this day, I remain surprised how the majority of the membership and all? of the moderators (be it by either their actions or words) in the *science* forum embraced and endorsed HD DVD over the Blu-ray format despite the fact that HD DVD’s inferior bandwidth and space made that format more predisposed to studio and post house compressionists using grain reduction software during the encoding of a high definition home media disc compared to the technical superiority of the Blu-ray spec.

Their whole post format war mantra now of *we think the Blu-ray movie could be better*, is sheer hypocrisy given their former bias for a technologically inferior home media format and continues to reek of ‘sour grapes’. They’re transparent as a glass of distilled water.

Buy hey Jeff (from above), they can always invite Amir back to Keynote at the next Science CEDIA Party like they did in ’07.

Boy, was that ever a defining symbolic statement as to their judgment and true color.

Penton, if you are saying that everyone who now posts at AVS was an HD DVD partisan during the format war, that is most certainly not true in my case.

From my experiences "over there" it appears that douchebaggery is alive and well. Just yesterday I got banned from the Zulu thread because I dared speak my mind and go against the majority who claim the movie is terrible and full of DNE and EE and ESP and ABC and all that horse puckey. Sad really, because someone coming along, sees that thread, reads all the lies and untruths about it, and passes on purchasing it (and experiencing a truly great movie in high def) just because a few of the lunatics are in charge of the asylum.

Unfortuneatley they have forgotten that the aim of our hobby is to enjoy the movie, not to spend days sat inches away from a projector screen looking for things that 99% of the viewing public can't see because they are
a: not sure what they are looking for in the way of halo's, EE, DNR etc
b: There kit is incapable of showing any potential issues
c: THEY ARE TOO BUSY ENJOYING THE MOVIE.

I will buy any movie that I either know i will like or may well like based on reviews/back cover of the bd irrespective of what some idiots are ranting on about that i don't understand and cannot see

Rant over - normal service can now be resumed

Dear P-Man,

just because I don't know who else to address this question to:

Do you have any information about which company is going to handle the Blu-Ray release of the upcoming Terminator Salvation (remains a very special franchise for any Austrian )? SPHE, WB or is this just another case of split distribution rights for the US and internationally (as Sony Pictures holds the international distribution rights for the theatrical release while WB does so for the US the home entertainment rights might (?) be vice-versa? Can you guide me, show me the light and hint a fine online reference (other than mere imdb ) for this kind of information?

Cheers.

Sony would do the video release wherever they have it, and it seems like they have most of Europe. Canal historically has Terminator in France. Money would be on whoever did T3 in Austria

In the Dark Knight thread at AVS there are actually those that are recommending skipping the BD in favor of the DVD. Seriously.

Thanks for chiming in, Jeff.

I guess I could have expressed myself better though... (just listen to Arnie to understand how obviously problematic this can be coming from Austria )

I am interested in any information regarding the -> US <- home entertainment distribution rights for the upcoming Terminator Salvation motion picture! I choose to import all my precious silver discs from the US - helping you guys fight recession if you will

Just the usual AV"S" hyperbole - Warner's TDK release is far from "perfection" but what isn't. The overall look/digital processing reminds me very much of their Matrix trilogy release - which should be quite fine by everybody's standard.

I guess the whole discussion is based on a couple of hypothesis how this release would have been handled by other studios. Overall the technical treatment of this release is satisfactory, with Imax sequences being outstanding. As is the movie IMHO.

Enjoy what we get instead of nitpicking. Striving excellence is very welcome in my book - but this should never hinder anybody from enjoying a movie like TDK on Blu-Ray. Looking at these discussions I cannot understand how any of those could have ever stomached a highly "compressed/limited" medium like DVD...

I've noticed as of late, more and more AVS members are claiming there is little difference between Blu-ray and DVD. If you recall, when Ironman was released and the scientists were comparing the BD vs DVD screenshots, the conspiracy theory of the studios purposely dumbing down DVD was the explanation for the BD looking so much better. There are other examples of it too. I guess some are finally accepting Blu-ray is not going to die soon, nor be taken over by downloads, so it's back to something else.

Some of these people will never, ever get over the format war - even some of them who actually buy Blu-ray take plenty of swings at it as we regularly see.

I am sure they are, since a lot of those "scientists" are actually HD haters is disguise. I signed up @ AVS over a year ago, and so far I have ZERO posts there. Don't expect my post count over there to increase either.

The thing is, most of these same AVS people were quiet - or quite defensive - of the 100 or so Universal HD DVD titles released last year where many of those titles were not of very good quality nor even contained lossless audio. However, that was considered "good enough" and an improvement over DVD so it didn't matter.

Heads Up, as seen on EXTRA last evening …………Big Blu-ray Giveaway………….
http://extratv.warnerbros.com/contests/
(gee-tar guys can also try for the item on the left of the screen).

As home theater enthusiasts, I know that we (meaning Blu-ray.com as well as a couple of the Insiders here, individually) do Blu-ray giveaways from time to time, and I hear that HTF also has Blu-ray movie giveaways……….does AVS giveaway anything related to Blu-ray other than free bad *science*?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Eat hearty, raise a glass with your friends in merriment because remember……. friends are God’s apology for some of your relatives.

Later.
