Kubrick's notorious for trashing what he doesn't need anymore.

When they shot 2010 they had to use 2001 still references because all the models were destroyed at Kubrick's request.

Dude, keep in mind you’re talking to someone who rode enduros and ISDT’s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVGmC...eature=related)

for 25 years since I was 10 years old and had to mount a motor-sickle standing on a milk crate at the starting line.
Kris Deering will set you straight on enduros .
I must say though that I never broke my clavicle(s) until I started riding bicycles due to their inherent top heavy nature with a rider onboard.
Haven't ridden in STL but I used to ride down in Tennessee quite a bit growing up.

Great stuff though, I got my first dirtbike (old Honda 75) when I was in first grade. My younger brother got his first little Yamaha before he could ride a bicycle. My family lived and breathed motorcycles growing up and I've never not had a dirtbike since I was little. Haven't had as much of a chance to ride singlewide this last year or two so I bought the GS1200R to get some more riding time in general.

So, in the perfect world, he mentioned that he would like to shoot a film where all the non-dialogue scenes are IMAX capture and the script with dialogue would be shot with a sync sound 65mm camera…….. such as the Arri 765 with a noise level that reportedly comes in at less than 25 db.

I don't remember such an idea of hybrid acquistion capture ever even mentioned publically by a filmmaker before and I would doubt there has been.
He's always on the bleeding edge of creativity whether it be storytelling or image acquisition.

I think Nolan's dislike for dubbing is interesting. It's easy to draw conclusions about what kind of a film director one is by watching one's films; it's not so simple to reach conclusions about what sort of an actors' director one is. Performances aren't necessarily much of an indicator---Michael Caine, for example, would turn in quality if directed by a rock. The fact that Nolan wants to keep his actors within their comfort zone, and that it's a priority to capture an entire performance in all its authenticity when the cameras roll rather than ask for re-creations in post---that's good stuff.

Oh no doubt you Enduro guys have skills, I've just ridden out there in Cali-land and kept wondering where all the singletrack was hiding . I've been very fortunate on the broken bone front- little toe and a radial head fracture. Lots of skin left behind and plenty of blood and sweat . If you are ever out this way, we can start off on the easy stuff and work you up to the technical trails .

Have a great Christmas!

As far as “those aren't even for sale in my part of the world”, if those Trappist monks in Belgium still brew the stuff, I’ve heard they devote themselves to a life of prayer, seclusion, manual labor, beer-brewing and hoping to receive a Blu-ray player for Christmas.

So Ice, send them a Blu-ray player and maybe they’ll find a way to get a few bottles up to you and thence to me.
If they don’t brew the stuff anymore, I’ll bet anyway that they have their own personal stash of which you could entice them to relinquish a bottle of.

By brother lives in Brussels so I'm sure we could work something out

I bought a copy of this for my wife (you can tell the PSN people that the trailer worked ) and we watched it last night.
Great Blu-ray.
Question; without getting into specifics obviously, did it cost Sony an absolute fortune to use so many Beatles songs? (and who did they have to pay these days??)

To give a good timeline

Live Free or Die Hard premiered on 6/27/2008

It had to be in compression for Blu-ray release by the end of July to make street, so the unrated cut, which was not finished until August was unable to be included (DVD turnaround can be incredibly short, 2-3 weeks from tape to products on the shelves if you really push it). End of year movies like Seven Pounds are often finished quite early compared to their release dates because they like to have the option of floating them around various film festivals, so it only makes sense that they've already mastered it.

Sometimes features are cut. For example when Chronicles of Riddick or Tenacious D underperformed (undeservedly) a lot of the bonus material was repurposed into Best Buy bonus discs. Most of the time those discs are fluff, but those are 2 gems.
Thanks Jeff, that actually answered two questions that have been swimming around in my head.

Be gentle with me……….I’ll try to keep up.

The folks in Whistler Canada also buffed their singletrack around Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains, in order that the bears wouldn’t inadvertently stub their toes (while walking along the rock and root infested trails) so it was easy for us SoCal surfer dudes to hang in the saddle for 24hrs. straight --last time I ventured up north, back when the U.S. dollar was still worth something………

I’m really not involved in that aspect of the business but just guessing, to the best of my knowledge, Paul McCartney and John Lennon's Estate were probably paid their songwriter shares of the royalties and Michael Jackson received some publishing rights $$.......how much depended upon the timing-

Since I only mentioned the PQ in the above post, the Blu-ray audio will of course be lossless and this is some background on the sound of this feature film…………….

How much to get him to eliminate the sprouts from all of creation? (no mom, they still aren't good )

Hey! I love Brussel Sprouts! My favorite vegetable! Even better with butter and a pinch of salt.

You want to get rid of a vegetable go for peas. Yeech.

Don't eliminate any vegatable features, but certainly standardize their preperation. If the Home Cooking Studios would just realize that lossy cooking results in veggies with poor color saturation and taste reproduction, and chose instead to follow what we veggie-philes know to be the proper way to master veggies for home eating, they could increase market penetration and open up the veggie format to the younger market.

And if they would just stay away from FE (Flavor Enhancement) and DNR (Dining Nuance Reduction), the world would be a happier place.

I'll agree with you. I'm not a fan of cooking veggies that much. Lightly steaming green beans yeah, but Sprouts and the squash family are inedible

Default Which aspect ratio is the closest to the field of view of human eyesight?

Is it true that widescreen is closer to the human eye's field of view than 4:3 or is it the other way around?

According to an old revision of wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?...ldid=102478358
Quote:
One rationale for widescreen is that, since the human eye has a field of view that extends farther to the sides than it does above or below, a widescreen image makes more effective use of the field of view, thereby producing a more immersive viewing experience. Critics of widescreen point out that the human field of vision, based upon the angular ratio of our fields of view (180 degrees horizontal, 135 degrees vertical), is in fact closer to the older ratio of 4 to 3, and not widescreen ratios such as 16:9 or 2.35:1. Consequently, large-format technologies like IMAX favor a 4:3 format
That paragraph is from an old revision on the 'widescreen' entry and doesn't appear on the new entry. I've read lots of other internet sources say widescreen and widescreen TVs are closer to human's field of view than 4:3 ones.

My question is what is the aspect ratio that is closest to human vision/what is the actual aspect ratio of human vision?

We see in widescreen

IMAX favors a more square ratio because anamorphic lenses are impractical for toting up mountains and to the arctic, and most importantly because building 2.40:1 theaters when the "2" represents 4 stories isn't very practical

I don't think anyone has ever assigned an aspect ratio to sight, but human sight would be more of a squashed oval than anything

In my completely unscientific test, my vision is 2.57:1(seated at my computer, I see 72"wide(on a curved plane that equals arms length in all directions) and 28" high.
