Here's another Blu-ray format question:
Does the base spec. require enough frame-buffer to seamlessly cover any on-the-fly changes in the frame-rate flagging? In other words, if one were to transfer, say... ![]() ![]() could they just transfer it as-is and apply appropriate frame-rate flagging or would the 24p portion of the film need to be converted so that the whole thing would run in 60p? |

Just to be clear George, as I know you’ve been reading this thread for something like two years now……..or so you’ve told me in the past – I do love the way the hounds express themselves and I wouldn’t have it any differently. ![]() And for those who are unaware of who Schawn B. is, search my past posts for several references to his credentials and past work. I believe Oliver had the opportunity to meet him at Berlinale. In short, he’s a film restorer/preserver with a great passion for films which has extended for years. Having them for a chat is a true feather in the cap for the administrators/membership of HTF. I hope that the questions posed to both of those industry professions are intelligent and that the answers are substantive as to information that people have not heard or read about already. Perhaps even a follow-up question would be in order. Funniest thing about it, I’m told that when some guy posted the announcement about the chat on the *science forum*, it got buried into oblivion (as of 1:45 P.M. -3/10/09) after only one or two comments. Me thinks those AVS people are afraid of losing even more membership to yet another forum other than ours. So, with my above promotion of both chats………attention HTF administrators, I want my two dollars! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXIBjo8gWEE |

I’ll see if the file is small enough for me to post a pic on this thread to compensate doctorossi for the above. |

Branching means going from one snippet to the other seemless branching implies that you don't see the branch point. Let's say you are watching the movie, it has loaded the last bit in the buffer before the branch. One part should be right after, so no issues, but for the alternate it needs to seek it out and then start DLing the content and during that time the buffer empties, if the old info (pre branch) empties before enough of the new info gets into the buffer, it is no more seamless. so after the branch (be it the branch out or branch back into the main stream) you want to have min BW to make it easier to re-fill the buffer (and why, if it is a very short branch there can be the issue that you go for the jump without a full buffer) think of it this way, in the early days of DVD some players had issues with DL disks because the buffer was not large enough. and we should not forget that you also need to make sure the cut scenes match perfectly in every way (for example if we are talking of i you also need to make sure the fields are the same) |

HTF has always had very good studio connections. But their fake-neutrality position during the format war and later sheer lack of enthusiasm towards the best-quality delivery vehicle for hidef movies (trumpeting doom and gloom and going as far as pushing the emperor-with-no-clothes Toshiba XDE player) made me lose a lot of respect for them. |
