That being said, for those that are still interested and not already saving up their money for 3D stuff, I know of only one place in the SoCal area that has any Kuro Elites still for sale, that be –http://www.yawaonline.com/store/prod....asp?prodID=62

I don’t know how they define “B stock”, best to call ahead before making the drive.
My Mom has a 60" being delivered today (A-Stock) for $3799. I'll be calibrating it soon for her.

Can she be her roommate for an episode first?
That was so poorly handled, honestly she's needed to die since season 2, and throwing that in was just showing how little they have for her to do. At least last night's excellent episode (and offing of another character who had long outlived his usefullness) has given me hope

Personally I've always preferred watching my movies in the dark anyway, and my friend's setup was in a windowless finished basement

I still hope there is a guest mountain lion in NYC sometime during the day. Or the first hour could be her shocking assassination...

Sorry.
My apologies.

Did a search for the titles but, obviously, haven't been following the thread for long enough to realize there wasn't much discussion on potential upcoming releases.

Maybe it's because I've only seen S1 and S5 through S7, but I've never understood the "Kim hate".... I really enjoyed her appearances last year... and look forward to them again this year.

I only saw one episode of S3 last year, and I haven't gotten around to watching the Blu-ray edition yet, so I'm a little out of the loop, BUT from what I know of the show, I do agree that they don't seem to have any idea what to do with her.

Personally, I would prefer they simply write her out of the show... enjoying college life... instead of killing her off. Then, they could bring her back as a guest should the story present itself.

I love 'epic' movies, but GONE WITH THE WIND, for whatever reason, has just never connected with me...

But regardless, in this case, I promise to "take one for the team" and buy the Blu-ray. I even suspect that viewing this via the restored BD will likely change my opinion of this film, so count me in, even though I do not have a wife...

Well, if there is anyone that wants to arbitrarily buy it to take one for the team but doesn't have interest in GWtW, I'm willing to take one for the team and accept it in their place.

Hey I didn't say I don't have an interest in it, just that I never connected with it in the past. I suspect viewing a restored version on Blu-ray via my video projector might remedy that

I have little interest in "Civil" War period pieces in general, and in some ways, are often turned off by it due to how many in my area consider that era to be GREAT.

Still, I purchased the original MGM DVD release years ago, and while I enjoyed the film, a lot of that enjoyment was in the talent making the film.

I may consider the film if Wal-Mart releases a bare-bones disc (ala Oz) myself given Jeff's comments and the screen-shots on DVDBeaver, BUT while I want the release in my collection, I'm in NO HURRY for the film.

Watch season 2, you will understand. By the time she meets the mountain lion you're praying it eats her (and in real life it almost did!)

As a film and story it's marvelous epic escapism at its finest with fantastic performances, costumes, direction, cinematography and sets. In the end, GWTW is absolutely a piece of romantic fantasy, the trappings of which too many people take as reality unfortunately.

You might find this a good read

From Blu-Con 2.0:

"According to the The Hollywood Reporter, Sony senior VP for restoration and mastering Grover Crisp said that, with his infectious enthusiasm for Blu-ray, Scorsese "has also gotten other directors like Michael Mann and Christopher Nolan involved" on disc remastering and special features."

Directors being excited about blu-ray, and getting directly involved in the production only means good things for the format. This is very good news.

The fact that Michael Mann has taken an interest in the format is exciting, for me at least. He is easily one of my favorite directors.
If any director screams location, location, location, it's him.
I just get lost in the visuals of his location shoots. They are absolutely stunning.

This sounds like a great conference (as well as 2008), but where are the proceedings available for purchase by right-coaster outsiders like myself?

Rats.

I feel the same way. For some reason, Gone With The Wind just never did it for me. And I'm usually a big fan of sweeping epics. I'm gonna rent the blu-ray and see if my feelings about the film have changed at all.

To be fair, it has been about 10 years or so since the last time I saw it.

Vincent, just watch it for the beautiful cinematography. I think true cinephiles always find something good or interesting in most motion pictures, which is why they are movie lovers in the first place.

GWTW, with its modeling and very dramatic low key effects when called for and the ‘big’ look of the film by utilizing matte paintings is very impressive esp. when one considers how the cinematographer(s) labored with those cumbersome Technicolor 3-strip cameras and the inherent slowness of the film in those olden times. The lenser(s) were forced to work with an excessive light level that is incomprehensible for modern day cinematographers to have to deal with……….without at least the aid of the digital intermediate process in post.

Not available but, it should be ‘reel’ easy for the code breakers out there to figure out Grover’s online handle for this forum and if interested in giving him a tip of the hat, you could always sign up to be his online friend.

I recently found this nifty feature on our forum………..
