There's an animated feature in that somewhere. Perhaps even in 3D.

where did you get that from? how can I be "defending subs" if I thought any translation should not be allowed? The point is subs or dubs you don't see the original, either one is a necessary evil.

Quote:
Subtitles are the most accurate way to view foreign movies the way it was meant if you don't understand the language.
how are they more accurate? sometimes they might be other times they might not. Let me ask you this. Let's pretend you don't understand English just because it is easier to discuss Hollywood blockbuster movies because it is easier to assume everyone has seen them.

You are watching Austin Powers: gold member, the scene with the fake subs. Now jokes don't translate well all the time but now the real subs would be over the fake ones so the whole joke would be lost (not to forget the subs extremely hard to read).

You are watching Ace Ventura, the butt talking scene comes on, is it more important what it is saying or that it is "his butt" that is saying it? If you are there reading the subs you are missing the punch line.

Don't get me wrong, I am not anti subs, each has its pros and cons, the issue is guys like you that don't realize subs have cons or that dubs have pros. Which makes this hatred towards dubs a bit nuts. If you have a choice use what you prefer, what you choose is better or what you find is better for that movie (why not try both). If no choice is given then watch it what ever way is available, you have no choice. What else is there?

Yes, years before I started hearing Angelo Badalamenti's notes hang in the air as soon as I neared the area.

To be honest, I expected very little of that. I wouldn't call it worthy of a laugh.

Oscar noms:

Best Picture
* Avatar
* The Blind Side
* District 9 (championed by Penton, no less)
* An Education
* The Hurt Locker
* Inglourious Basterds
* Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire
* A Serious Man (championed by ME... )
* Up
* Up in the Air

So, this is what the "Dark Knight"-rule has wrought... I wonder now how the votes will split.

It's too bad they don't have a "most ludicrous title" award for Precious Perhaps a special Oscar?

Up should win, but it won't. It's a simple, beautiful film, and if the first ten minutes don't convince you, then nothing will.

Frankly I'm sad that Where the Wild Things are got totally dissed, not even one of the artistic categories

So, I’m looking at the recent Blu news and this article piques my fancy……
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4113 and scanning the offered comments reminds me

of the last paragraph of this article from December last –
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3912

To my good friend George F., I recommend one of two things to you , either -
1. Do not read “everything that people say on the boards”.
or
2. If you continue to do so, then take 5mg. of Valium P.O. about 45 min. prior to reading.

Eat your heart out …………..

Now, without Googling, impress us all and tell me who is sister of the brother/sister motion picture team, the brother of which is the Co-Producer of 82nd Annual Academy Awards Show this year.

And for the Big Sea-gar (which I doubt you’ll find by Googling but, who the hell knows for sure these days), tell me who they pitched The Wedding Planner to and whether or not it was a hard or soft sell?

I bolded the pertinent phrase above ^……..don’t you see, THAT is what makes the situation so comical.

I missed Precious at TIFF this year, and missed Hurt Locker at TIFF in 2008 (!) - to put that in perspective, on that same day in September of 2008, both Slumdog Millionaire and Hurt Locker had premiere public screenings.

Weird, huh?

IB just gets better every time I see it, it's such a great little film with the obvious astounding performance from Woltz, and I think an underappreciated but equally fabulous performance by Pitt... He allows Woltz to steal each scene he's in, yet Pitt does this delightful, nuanced little actions that are just priceless ("Bon...Jor...No" is an amazing contribution he made to his character, as seen on the Charlie Rose interview on the BD).

I've got both D9 and HL on BD to watch. Avatar is the mess we all know about, I've spoken to no one who thinks Precious is actually any good if you see more than one movie a year (ie., NOT the Oprah crowd), Up In the Air is a lovely, quiet film that's sure to be blown past by more bombastic or emotionally manipulative films. Blind Side must be better than it looks, based on all the hype, but I just can't believe it's much more than the trailer has shown. An Education I've also missed out on this year, alas, waiting to see it on shiny disc. Which leaves the one film that certainly will NOT win, given that the Coens have already received the only award they're like to ever steal from the clutches of the academy, but I think in terms of sheer weirdness, intelligence, and wit there's not a better film on that list. Besides, the last truly unabashedly "Jewy" film to win Best Pic was Annie Hall, and that was about a nebbish trying to hook up with a shiksa. Sure, there's Schindler's, and Chariots, and maybe even Kramer vs. Kramer (again with the Shiksa!), but those are all depressing films about the holocaust, anti-semitism, divorce, and the weird, almost mythical tale of celebrated Jewish athletes.

No, Serious Man won't win, alas, you can count on that. But it is, I believe, at least tied for the most enjoyable film on that list (with another flick where a bunch of Nazis get shot!), and that's got to count for something...

Or, how about:

3. Do not repackage old assets and then expect to be met with anything but frustration on the part of others who also "care about" film classics.

All the usual " warner bros latest blu ray release made me so angry I put my foot throught the tv, and sent them the bill.." type comments are a bit ridiculous.

But I do think they have set themselves up for a fall, especially if they re-issue a title like this and can't even bump up the audio to HD, especially given the flack they've taken for lack of HD audio over the past 18 months.

Given that the cost of putting together the new packaging is probably equal or more than the cost to pull out the digital audio masters from the last remastering session and converting them to a HD format, I know which option I would have preferred!
