1) shutter glasses like the original IMAX 2) superimposed image polarization where there are two images, created one on top of the other but then projected at the same place on the screen. (Sony/Technicolor) 3) sequential frame polarization, the images are projected at a much faster pace and in front of the lens there is an LCD that switches polarization with each frame. |

exactly, it is not a matter of letting bygones be bygones (I have no ill will to him or anyone else) but how can anyone trust him and have faith in what he writes (or says) when he has proven over and over again that he is willing to lie to put a few extra $ in his pockets? Even if one is extremely naďve and gives him the benefit of the doubt and he was conned as much as anyone else how would you trust that he isn’t being conned with the other stuff he says?
There is an old saying, “even a stopped clock is right twice a day”, even if it is true it would be stupid to use that clock to tell the time just because you know it is wrong so often. I see the same thing here. If he shows up, who cares, I am not interested in anything he has to say. I won’t take a pitchfork to the guy, but if he posts something I recognize as BS I will call him on it, like I would to anyone else. But if he posts something that I don’t know if it is right or not, I will definitely not take him saying so as it being a fact. |

In regards to the part of your post which I didn’t bold and contains the word "brain"…well, your query is flirting with a potentially future litigious zone, esp. in the U.S., where it seems people sue and counter sue other people/organizations/companies for all sorts of things on a daily basis whether it be meritorious or not, so right up front I’ll have to state that… The following opinion is my own and does not necessarily reflect the opinion or prior knowledge of my employer, any professional organizations that I may be or have given consultation to or any other standards/specifications, etc. committees that I hold or have held a seat on…in other words, this is my personal opinion. You basically have to separate the *potential health issues* into two groups, namely *potential* temporary vs. permanent damage related to mostly prolonged 3D viewing, with the exception perhaps of photosensitive seizure or stroke which can be induced with even past 2D television viewing. And also it would be wise to separate 3D viewing by adults from that with children. In due course, different manufacturers will address this situation in different ways to warn or alert the public…. https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4442 http://www.myce.com/news/sony-3d-tv-...o-close-26981/ Now, before anyone freaks out…for some perspective, I would recommend you going to your local bookstore and opening up the Physicians’ Desk Reference and read the paragraphs listed under the headings, “Precautions”, “Warnings”, “Side Effects” for any drug in the book. It’s a virtual laundry list of complications that often include death. And the above is not only applicable to prescription drugs, for instance, if you chronically take too much over the counter aspirin you can literally burn a hole in your stomach, too much Tylenol, you can get irreversible liver damage. To go from drugs to TVs, some say too much 2D viewing (hours and hours and hours) of certain themed content can lead to socially aberrant or at least individually dysfunctional behavior of different degrees in predisposed people. Bottom line for 3D viewing in children and teenagers - it should be monitored and supervised and unless there is some acute serious health event which is precipitated by viewing 3D content which would then require consultation with your physician before continuing use…then, MODERATION in regards to chronic daily viewing time is a good idea for young enthusiasts of the extra video dimension. One reason primarily being because of the neuroplasticity of childrens’ vs. adult brains. Probably the best available correlative visual pathway model we have in that regard to at least indirectly theoretically extrapolate to 3D viewing, would be based upon the age-related effectiveness of treatment for amblyopia… http://www.nei.nih.gov/news/pressreleases/041105.asp < i.e. treatment suggests that teenagers' brains (in terms of plasticity) are pretty much hard-wired to outside visual sensory stimuli by age 18....at tops. Bottom line for 3D viewing in people 18 years and older - if you don’t meet some of the conditions in the Samsung news release linked to above, I really wouldn’t be concerned anymore about prolonged 3D viewing than that for prolonged 2D viewing in terms of anything other than possibly inducing temporary discomfort(s) which can easily be remedied by limiting your viewing content to well done 3D and/or taking off the glasses and doing something else…..like EXERCISE. |

From the article that you linked, I do find one technical omission or at least vagueness in their discussion of the so-called “new” HD masters to be potentially very relevant given the polarized opinions on the internet concerning the picture quality. That being, I would hope that the final archival master used for FOTR was sourced from a modern day scanner with modern day software (color corrector)….rather than all the recent work which is being talked about had actually been done starting from an original outdated master tape and is essentially a *video re-mastering* of that by WB’s Motion Picture Imaging, akin to doing something like this…http://digitalcontentproducer.com/mi...ray/index.html...in order to make the so-called "new" master for FOTR. If you’re not following me, then think of it this way. When The Fifth Element was ‘redone’ (given its importance as a cult classic to videophiles, so to speak), which pales in cinematic importance compared to LOTR, instead of starting with the old HD master [which came from a outdated transfer device (namely a flying spot telecine) and old color corrector tools] and making a NEW HD master from that old HD archival master tape, SPHE commissioned an entirely new true scan of the best available color timed print to be used as the source for the NEW master for the NEW Blu-ray of TFE because a true scan contains a lot more information than a telecine and the onboard color corrector tools likewise are more technologically advanced. If the studio producing the Blu-ray for the Trilogy didn’t do a new modern day true scan (with modern color corrector tools) of the best available color timed film element, then me thinks the screenshot police will scream *Poor effort, those cheap b*st*rds* on the part of WB. On the other hand, if in fact, WB did indeed start from a new datacine (scan) with the latest and greatest HD mastering software onboard, then me thinks the screenshot police will scream *WB compressionists still like to needlessly turn up the DNR knob on their encoding machine*… just look at these mpeg-2 HDTV screenshots as *evidence*! So, given the above, when you think about it, the screenshot police have WB pretty much between a rock and a hard place in regards to the work done on FOTR for the Blu-ray edition. I don’t much care either way because as far as I’m concerned, they pretty much dug their own grave by asking Blu-ray.com to remove the screenshots from Ken Brown’s review so they’re not getting any LOTR sympathy from me and they can lie in the overly hyped internet screenshot perception bed that the *screenshot scientists* on other forums have made for them. |

Penton,
my daughter when she was 1.5 years old suffered a seizure and is since on medication for it, she had a few that one day 2 years ago (frightening experience) but thankfully hasnt has any since and is likely to outgrow the condition and will be weaning off the medication starting in May.. we are a little concerned about the affect of bringing her to see a 3d film in the cinema.. and its actually harder to find screenings here in dublin especially of animated films that arent in 3d. Has there been any studies done to see if there's a link with 3d viewing and epilepsy? We're really hoping to bring her to see Toy Story 3 but i know its only going to be in 3d in our local cinema.. Cheers, Mick Quote:

Not only does he want to go on local errands and such with us but, I think he’s probably been to as many formal functions as to rival any ‘celebrity dog’. His favorite being outdoor weddings because all the women immediately stop what they’re doing when they see him and come over to us to pet and talk to him…up close and personal. In *the wild* he is a squirrel hunter extraordinaire, although he would never think about actually biting or harming one, past experience has demonstrated such. He just likes to chase them down. I had to put our last German Shepherd to sleep a few years back because he was essentially bed ridden and suffering from intractable pain. Afterwards, I never thought I would ever grow so fond of the little fella (our Pom) but, he won me over in no time with his charm. I think he felt sorry for my loss (my German Shepherd, who also loved him dearly). But, yes, he is my wife’s dog as I think he would almost run through fire for her. When she was gone for 6 weeks to visit her parents, he pulled a micro-Hachi…https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Hachi...-Blu-ray/8811/ and ever since then, we take him just about everywhere with us that we can…including on the plane with the human folks for an extra $75. or so, each way. He never gets car sick, never plane sick, he always has a smile on his face as long as he’s with his ‘momma’. ![]() |

AVS got into bed with MSFT. Like others have said MSFT did not want either HD DVD or BD succeed. It probably also can be said that Apple wants BD to fail also. They did not want their so-called 'HD' offerings on iTunes competing with a real HD format. |

Neurological patient care is really is not my area of expertise and I think you should consult a qualified neurologist. If you like to do the internet surfing thing, it’s best to search reputable sites like teaching hospitals such as John Hopkins Hospital, Harvard, Mayo Clinic and especially the A.A.N. http://patients.aan.com/disorders/in...isorder_id=918 |
