Porn always uses those newfangled features. In the dawn of DVD there were lots of guys coming in asking for movies that used alt angle, and that's where I always had to send them

Ah, you know your history.

Despite the fact that Betamax was thought by geeks and nerds to be the technologically superior format, many believe that a driving factor to VHS winning that war was due to porn…

As the cost of 3D cameras and post becomes cheaper over time, you just know that 3D porn content will be inevitable…and lucrative.

I'd say it was the fact that JVC was willing to license VHS out so that anyone could make the players, and therefore making a larger and more lucrative base for porn to prosper under

Where have I heard that before?

Penton,

I find it ironic that the guy who wrote that paper has a last name of Johnson. Coincident? I think not

You wouldn't be referencing Barry Sonnenfeld's adult film camerawork would you?

(No, I'm not kidding. It's true. Look it up.)

Might I also add that unbiased (meaning a truly random sample with no sampling bias) internal test (focus) groups from more than one studio/content distributor have found that viewers watching ‘event’ as well as non-event-driven programming had a 'better' experience in 3D, according to the data.

I think the King of the World needs to wait until a few more true 3D films come out, and 2 or 3 years pass with a large, nationwide accessible 3D theaters before making those kinds of statements. Vast swaths of the country have had 3D capable cinemas for less than a year and the shiny factor hasn't had a chance to wear off yet. Let's see how Tron does, let's see how MIB3D does. But in the meantime, we need to stop the stupid 3D conversions because they're going to burn out the market on the spectacle with sub par and mediocre stuff. As far as i know, there isn't another True 3D spectacle due until Tron at Christmas

Over the past decade I have become very suspicious of statements like: " <insert new tech thing> is going to take over in X years." Previously I was just skeptical, but now I'm looking for the ulterior motive on why someone would publicly make such a blanket statement. The person making the statement sounds like a salesperson pitching a product. Often it turns out the person making the statement either has a vested interest in the new technology or is getting paid by technology companies to spout such hyperbole.

As much as I like 3D, I don't think it is going to "take over." Aside from technical problems with current 3D projection systems and new 3D capable TV sets, I believe the biggest drawback of 3D is it removes some of the sense of scale from the image. This is especially true when it comes to watching movies on really big screens. A 15-perf 70mm image projected on a real IMAX screen can make a lot of things look much larger than life size. When viewed in 3D the same objects are merely life sized.

Not everyone likes wearing the 3D glasses. I'm not convinced anyone is going to develop a glasses-free 3D display that works as well as any that use glasses anytime soon. And I just don't see certain types of movies and other programming working well in 3D either.

3D may become more popular and more "mainstream," but I think most movies, TV shows, documentaries, etc. will still be produced 2D only for many years to come.

He's talked/joked about it openly. I even think it was on a commentary.

Still discomfited?
