The values he embodied in me at an early age served me well during challenging times in the pursuit of a professional career (non-soccer).
Penton,

While coaching is a heck of a lot of work I really enjoy it, especially when I have a great group of kids. Unfortunately, last year tried my patience due to some bad apples (parents and kids), but this years team is much better. This is my 10th year coaching (boy, does time fly as we get older) and I run into kids around town that I've coached in the past and love when they come up to me and say "Hey coach." That makes all the hard work totally fulfilling.

Ah, Marty's 3D film. I wonder if this is why he went here:

BTW, ever see Dial M in 3D? It's quite fun, actually...

I’m just hoping that you and others are willing to keep an open mind (and wallet) for Hugo Cabret (shooting in Paris now), given the undeniable quality of the talent involved….

Otherwise, I guess it’s the Bundesliga in the future for you (http://www.focus.de/kultur/medien/fu...id_543901.html ), as I’ve always maintained that sports will be the main driver for the adoption of 3D in peoples’ homes with other types of entertainment serving a complementary role…at least initially.
I am definitely open to check out the Bundesliga and the next Scorsese movie - those are very interesting applications for me

Good to hear.

For me, in my spare time, I’m trying to follow the expedition because of my interest in diving and history. Another clip from this a.m. –

Currently they’re back in port at St. Johns because of the hurricane coming up from the south.

Lots to look forward to - linking to my site from here is verbotten based on BC.com rules, but you're personally welcome to check often during the fest
Somehow, I missed this post ^ from the last page. Shark, I don’t check anybody’s Twitter feed!...I just don’t have the time to check all the different types of internet social networking vehicles like Twitter and Facebook.

I don’t think any harm will be done if you provide a link to Bruce Springstein’s comments concerning The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town while he's at your film festival. Will you be attending/covering the Mavericks sessions and/or the World Premiere for TIFF?

If so, I believe everyone would be appreciative of your reporting of the event esp. as it relates to Bruce S. and the upcoming Blu-ray.

Hey, it's up to you... Again, not stepping on any toes, there's a really big "DO NOT LINK TO YOUR SITE" thing in the FAQ/rules (my AVS handle has quietly had a link for a while, fwiw). I'm hoping to attend the mavericks session and the Promise doc, but the former's going to take a bit of work. I'm a pretty big Bruce fan, so it might be worth the effort.

Did you by any chance see the previous doc on the Born to Run box set? Bug somebody at Sony Music for that one if you don't already have it, the Hammersmith concert is worth owning it all by itself.

Anyhoo, no need to discuss these things directly, if you can't find my site, PM, and Ice, if you're reading and I can link to some of my film reviews, plz let me know. My "twitterings" are available on the top of the page - I continue to view facebook as something pretty evil, but Twitter works quite well mid-fest for spitting out 140 character mini reviews. I find it an interesting writing challenge to be so precise/consise without resorting to "Prince-speak" (I wud di 4 u, etc.)

Gearing up already, have a couple prescreens over the next few days, things launch on the 9th. Should hit over 60 films this year in the period, and not a hell of a lot of sleep!

ps. Corrected you spelling of "Springsteen"

ah, crap. just read a review on Tommy BD, looks like Sony eschewed all "extras" save for Movie IQ. Pleased the film will look good and sound great, but disappointing this release didn't warrant more of an investment, especially as there's lots of material out there that could have been used.

Boo.

K, I'm over it. I'm still buying the damn disc. Sigh...

In this case (Bruce S. insights), don’t worry about it. You’ve got an exemption.

Potentially most Blu-ray related -
Although I missed it, apparently the crowd was very impressed with Andrew O.’s film case study of FotoKem’s restoration of The Sound of Music as evidenced by its 4K digital cinema incarnation which looked very good. As a backdrop to the presentation, Andrew showed images from previous restorations done to this motion picture over the past couple of decades and the latest work exceeds all others.

I notice on today’s News page that Fox has now officially announced The Sound of Music to street on Nov. 2, the same day as The Bridge on the River Kwai and Blu-Con 2010…..which seems to be a popular event day in the world of Blu-ray.

Anyway, since this is the end of the summer vacation season so to speak, might I just mention as an aside to The Sound of Music news that for all future European vacationers who happen to put Salzburg on their itinerary, like my wife and I did back in ’08 (see the last paragraph here….https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post1061356)

If you are a fan of history, I highly recommend a visit or stay at the Villa Trapp….http://wartbichler.net/vt/

Sorry, couldn't resist... Should be spelled with two Ps.

SOM and GWTW are the two classics that I have perverse pride in never having sat through...

Instead, I choose this:

I am actually happy that these are released on the same day - if I choose to import it will help me to save on shipping costs

Ah, the original Von Trapp villa - I will have to wait and see how much I like the musical in order to decide if I want to go

Sooner. Watch for some IFA 2010 show news reports…probably later today or tomorrow, a 3D 1080p projector should be unveiled by Omar at the press conference in Berlin.

^ specifically, the VPL-VW90ES (uses active shutter glasses)

Tidbit specs -
Customizable for large or small rooms, in regards to the later, a fan noise of only 22db makes it feasible for installation in enthusiasts’ small room home theaters.

True dynamic contrast ratio of 80,000:1.

I will have a look at it on Friday - I hope it will have plenty of lumens - we need them for 3D

How much is the contrast ratio when you deactivate the Iris function?

I doubt the consumer electronics guys would reveal that info to me if I asked them. I think you’re going to have to let your own eyes be the judge when any demos are available.

Honestly, I would simply use that 80,000 number as guide in comparison to other model projector specs offered by the same manufacturer (in this case Sony).

FYI, saw some of my first screenings, with a review already up. Asks the immortal question, who's hotter, Kiera Knightley or Eva Mendes.

Can only assume you'll know who I'd pick.

Meanwhile, did y'all SEE Christina Hendricks at the Emmys? booya...
