Interesting, as I did not know that. Zee plot thickens.
Did you read his response to my post that you quoted?
His two posts were deleted from the thread, so they only live on where they were quoted.

Good to hear . I really don’t follow them much but it’s nice to see another European football fan on this forum.

I’ve seen from other members’ avatars we have Arsenal, ManU, and Liverpool also well represented. Must drive PeterTHX crazy.

For those tired of the *green tint* talk of today on “more challenged sites” like Blu-ray.com

‘Snowy’ is pure white in The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (Produced by P.J.), a new trailer as posted today -

Hey, ole geezer – Steven Spielberg is the Director and it’s in 3D.

I'm not at all trying to provoke you. It's sometimes difficult to determine when RAH is typing with tongue in cheek. Could be that the RAH 'challenged' post in AVS was made with me in mind.

I wanted to know if this was what you were referring to, when you said RAH implied that the coloring was done 'in house' at Warner: "Whether this is a way for Sony's in-house color facility to try to take business away from Warner by making it appear that Warner doesn't know what it's doing..."

Actually, I'm surprised that you would feel provoked, by me or RAH. Since there was no emoticon at the end of your post, I guess you were.

Reminds me of the red tint controversy with Spirited Away's Japanese release on DVD. After the DVD was released and people started complaining, the studio insisted that it was intentional, to compensate for the weaker reds in LCD and Plasma TVs of the era (2003?). The U.S. release by Disney was fine.

So... has the FotR EE come out in Japan yet?

However, I, for one, would rather have him sickly green than looking like he does in that trailer.

I'm mildly saddened by this project, all around.

Forget about it, misunderstanding then . Perhaps I was also subconsciously reliving the pain of crashing out in more than one mountain bike race in Fontana (after reading from where you’re from…..below your avatar).

Spoiler, you know....just in case....that one person has not seen it yet!

I agree, as I think the *degree of difficulty* for executing that cross was greater than that for the header. I believe David Beckham couldn’t have made a better placement. Superb pass!

Little known fact. If it wasn’t for Steven S., then Boyz n the Hood (1991) would not have had so many tracking shots. Which brings me to…’tube of the Day –

I’m impressed shark, as I don't think many folks know that . No wonder you're a bigtime reviewer for the Toronto Internation Film Festival. Yes , Arnold and Richter (the manufacturers of Arriflex cameras) built a brand new camera for Das Boot of which proved to be an elegant hand-held solution for the time. That camera, combined with a uniques gyro-stabilized attachment, allowed Jost Vacano, BVK, to make it all happen. B.T.W., at that time in filmmaking, at least in Germany, most all cinematographers operated their own cameras (i.e. were also the ‘camera operator’).

After more than 2 months of shooting, he became quite adept at maneuvering within the confines of the sub, first trying the maneuver by running attempts just through one air lock for capturing other prior scenes to test if it was even doable. Ultimately, they went for a continuous run through all the compartments of the boat for that now famous scene and Jost narrowly cleared the obstacles along the way by sheer millimeters sometimes……and other times along the hazardous course, he scraped things and got his share of abrasions and contusions.

Bottom line, nobody on the set ever thought that it would possible for one man with a hand-held camera to race through that confined area and go the full 200? foot length of the interior of the sub. Rack that shot up to concentration, instinct, balance…and desire.
The gyro-stabilized attachment was an invention of Jost Vacano himself, right? I remember reading something like that in the supplements on Criterion's RoboCop DVD. He must've used the same equipment on Soldier of Orange (another Verhoeven picture) too, because that movie is filled with shots that are way too smooth to be hand held.

I think somebody didn't have their cup of coffee this morning, as that post comes off as being a wee bit judgemental to me.
Honestly Penton I hadn't expected you to respond to my post. It was done purely in jest.

Based on your post there is no question that your viewing the issue with some concern, which is good. I've refrained from commenting as I had not seen the Blu-ray Extended Edition of FOTR till recently. As a rule I won't comment on releases based solely on Screen Caps. It's been shown many times in the past that they are questionable at best. To many variables come into play to make them of any use.

But back to the viewing of the FOTR.

Has the colour timing been changed? Most definitely.

Is the change as prominent as the initial screen caps indicated? No

Now for the most relevant question IMHO. Does the colour timing impact, or change, the tone of the film?

For me, there is no doubt that it does. On an emotional level I was watching a different film.

IMO changing colour timing has an even greater impact on the presentation then doing a re-edit. I personally don't like it and would hope that this practice comes to a stop.

If Mr. Jackson did indeed make this change so be it. He has every right to do it. It is his film. But I'm left scratching my head when viewing the results.

So Penton, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to guard the sands of the Arabian Peninsula, and insure that they remain as they are.

This message will self-destruct in 5 seconds since it's been posted on a "more challenged site".
