^ P.S.
I’ve long held the opinion that more than one reviewer of notoriety on the internet (who shall remain nameless) are way, way too 'tight' with the studio in Burbank to truly provide unbiased assessments/reviews of all their Blu-ray movies as well as their past encoding/authoring procedures and should have recused themselves, long ago, from reviewing software media arising out of that distributor. Because, even if there isn’t an explicit *quid-pro-quo* between some marketing people and selected reviewers, there is a perception amongst many unbiased observers that little perks are being handed out in terms of access, etc. for being ‘friendly’ to that content provider. That’s ‘the big elephant in the room’, if you will, given the turn of events starting from the initial *Cliff Note* reviews of FOTR and what has transpired since with this current Blu-ray controversy. I can assure you that the reviewers at Blu-ray.com receive no special *treatment* from WB nor SPHE, for that matter. Blu-ray.com is indeed ‘challenged’ in the sense that it gets its Blu-ray info on the News page and Blu-ray titles usually AFTER most everybody else, including one-man Blu-ray review/website operations, unless the owners here pay money out of their own pocket to actually purchase the Blu-ray movies. Some outside Blu-ray reviewers get exclusive invites and such, whereas, on the other hand, those from Blu-ray.com do not. They don’t have marketing executives from WB volunteering their time to participate in panel discussions at Comic-Con, etc. And I don’t blame the marketing executives at WB or any studio, for that matter, as that is their job….that’s what they get paid for. But it’s getting a little ridiculous when you have reviewers going around to 3 (or more?) forums/websites on the internet defending a product that they had 0 input into its production. |

Also, for this film, the camera itself was entirely new and featured a finder extension which facilitated low camera angle shots starting at floor elevation but still allowed Jost to stand almost erect and most importantly, it also featured a remote controlled focusing device which Jost designed with the help of some other gentleman (whose name escapes me at the moment) …the remote focus control allowed his First Assistant to follow focus behind him (two guys in tandem, if you will) as the camera moved throughout the compartments of the sub. An elegant solution for its time. One thing which I failed to mention before is that back then they didn’t have anything like a shaky-cam tool in the digital intermediate colorists’ software arsenal. During the Das Boot shoot, on the contrary, there was a hydraulic platform constructed under the floor of the ‘sub’ and it worked so well that the actors had a difficult time in keeping their feet planted on the floor during some *jarring* scenes. So, Jost had to ‘suit up’ almost like a football player with a helmet, elbow and knee pads, etc. to prevent him from getting hurt during those scenes and he had to shoot with both eyes open in order to focus on the composition in the viewfinder as well as anticipating crashing into his surroundings while the hydraulic lift was bouncing everyone and everything around. |

Ray - I quickly (thank goodness) skimmed past your post about today's soccer match because I won't be able to watch the game until later this evening after work.
So, no comment from me, until then. Today's a 'work day', aint like the weekend. |

I won't spoil it for you then. Good match though. Had to watch after all the drama in the Brazil match with the ref's questionable calls.

I’m not looking at any more posts on this page until I’ve gotten the opportunity to watch the match (which hopefully will be this evening), anyway, I forgot to post a ‘tube of the day , so –
^ I’m told the N.Y.Times? has recently done a piece on the motion picture, but I haven’t gotten the time to track down the article. I’m hoping it’s favorable. ![]() |

![]() We were fortunate to get through. ![]() Onto the Finals! ![]() P.S. The thing I love about Womens soccer is that for the most part it doesn't include all the crap which the men do...dirty tackles, elbow city on headers, play-acting, etc. The women truly make it more of a 'beautiful game' ![]() |
