Lucas of all people should've known 2K was never gonna be the end, and would've kept the originals to be re-scanned at higher resolution down the road. ....at least I hope so

he hasn't exactly shown an overabundance of sound decision making

I've heard the first 3 were given the 4K treatment. I don't have any links right now, but hopefully this turns out to be a true story.

Well thankfully he's not really making the decisions anymore. Hope springs eternal

You should be banned from this section of the forum. Everywhere I look you're spreading misinformation. I dunno if it's on purpose or if you're just ignorant, but you're not helping the discourse in these threads.

The question is: Did they work with the original negative (some say they are destroyed) or something else (copy, etc...) ?

"converted" aka "upscaled"

show me where they were newly scanned at 4K and had all of their DI and VFX redone at 4K.

Otherwise show me a 4K scan of the original, unaltered, film. I remember rumors about it last year, based on it showing up as a "project" on a website. But if they remastered at 4K I've never seen any official news

That news is related to the same rumors of a new unaltered blu ray release that was supposed to materialize in November.

I would LOVE to see a true 4K release of Star Wars. But it is would only ever be the unaltered original trilogy. The reshoots and new VFX for the rerelease were done with 2K digital cameras and renders. The prequels were also all shot almost entirely with 2K digital cameras, the will NEVER exist as 4K.

Please, the studios have been scanning films in various "K's" for years. Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind, the BOND films and more. Amazon has Ultra HD films ready to watch. The masters are there, but we the consumers are still at the mercy of the Studios.
Meanwhile there are so many film's that have been on cable in HD that still have never seen the light of a BD release.

I dont even need the PT in 4K, just correct the DNR fiasco on Episode I and I'll be very happy. Still haven't bothered buying the OT on Blu, I'm not buying them for a third time until it's the originals.

That's lucky as only one would be viable for 4k...

Lol Phantom was 35MM, Clones was 1440x1080p and Sith was 1920x1080p

Is this place getting dumber, or is it just this and the shout threads

you're right. According to the Wiki they only used the 750 to shoot some scenes as test material, which I"m guessing means they also shot the same scenes with film.

Yeah Episode I is the only one that would be a viable true 4K, and needs a new transfer way more than the other two.
