Cable or not, ratings are a big deal. Rubicon was not renewed because the ratings were pretty poor (despite the fact that it was mostly really good). It only did about 1 million in ratings per episode. It seems like a show should be able to float on 1 million, but for modern TV that is just too low.

Mad Men only does about half the ratings of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. and only twice what Rubicon did. I'm sure its produced to survive well enough at those ratings and now it has a track record and sentimental value to hold under its arm. But its still pretty thin margins to float on.

Breaking Bad falls in between Mad Men and Rubicon for ratings. Its pretty much been peaking over the edge for its entire existence. The people and critics that watch it love it and I'm sure the crew loves making it. So its got sentimental value and it seems to me like AMC really wants to try hard to keep it. So buy the Blu-rays and leave your TV on the channel as it airs, even if you plan to watch it later on DVR or other means.

Yes, but for some reason a huge portion of people around here actually think every tv in the house counts whether they have a box or not lol. If you don't have a box the only company impacted by you leaving all your tvs on that often is the power company who is just getting more money outta you for wasting electricity. Thats why I DVR everything, why waste my time watching commercials when my viewership has never been counted.

Same here I used to try and leave the TV on to help raise viewers but parents wouldn't let me as they said we don't have the ratings box so it doesn't matter. I was about 7 back then and learned about how no box = not caring if you watch or not.

... which is why I watch shows on my computer through "other means".

I think I read somewhere that AMC wanted to try to launch The Killing early and try to get more viewers for Breaking Bad in the summer when there are less shows on.

That makes more sense I think as it seems all these murder/mystery shows never do good in the Summer while Breaking Bad would do good anytime as it already has a following.

*that's really dumb, too. Ideally you'd want every cable viewer to count, so why aren't boxes built into TVs now???

The Killing premieres really soon, I think it'll be nearing the end of it's run by the time Breaking Bad premieres.

If they are smart, they will premiere Breaking Bad immediately following The Killing season finale (provided The Killing is getting good ratings).

They would completely own that night in the ratings.

Breaking Bad is already confirmed to return in July so we won't see it in June unless they decide to change premier dates which I don't think AMC will as they already seemed set with the July premier.

Amazon only has the DVD listed as a Blu-ray version of season 3 hasn't been announced yet.
